Ignoring the fact that China has more Coal fired power plants than any country in the world, has 28 more on order now and an additional 40 planned for the future......exactly what does the left plan to do?
The fiction is the mindset that a Wind Farm runs like the pinwheel Daddy bought you at KMart, then you stuck it outside the open window on the station wagon going 40 down the road. You are about to get lesson of the myth of Wind and I can do the exact same on solar if needed.
A power plant is producing power that runs along a transmission line to a major city. That power plant is fueled most likely by fossil fuel. That line runs next to a wind farm. When producing power the wind farm is connected to an intertie substation owned by the utility. That makes the Wind Farm nothing more than a co-gen power source .....never intended to be the primary source of power. And it cannot be .....Costs to produce power can be three times the cost of what the Utility will pay for the power produced Guess who pays the difference? You and I, taxpayers.
Early in the morning, say 5am ....the entire farm is still, not a propeller moving. General earth science, sun rises, heat builds, wind produced and if at speed ......The weather station on top of the turbine says ....Get ready to switch from consuming power and start the motors to turn tons of material, turn into the wind and pitch the blades to catch enough wind to turn the the motors off. Meanwhile .....At the farm we were on along the Oregon Gorge ....Two young interns waved as they drove by each morning to start their gathering. The debris field for a tower is about 200 feet around the base ...... these young ladies gathered bird and bats for their studies at Washington State. While pretending to do the world some good .....another more disastrous problem is being created. Wind Farms are located in Migratory Bird paths. Birds follow the winds. That means birds that act as seeding instruments are being devastated. Bats the same. When they vanish pollen is not spread and the insects no longer have predators to keep the populations down. When the sun sets .....the farm goes still, no wind.
Based on where we were located, on a Black Angus ranch ....the only use for a 200 foot tall Wind Tower? Shade trees for cows. Each morning the herd would line up in the shadow of the tower and follow that shadow all day as relief from the 100 plus temps off the cliffs on each side of the river. Ontario, Alberta, Oklahoma, Idaho, Texas was no different.
Germany has just slit their own throats. Watch them carefully. They are closing three nuclear plants and in their own words ......waiting for reliable sources of renewable power sources as they use Natural Gas. In other words they know wind and solar will not keep them supplied with power. When hell freezes over, that more reliable source may never get installed and produce. Germany will pray that their population does not freeze before hell does.
I turned a Corporation around in two months selling Distribution Transformers to Wind and Solar Farms ....Had Cooper give up trying to compete with us. GE and ABB were getting schooled as well.
