How Long Do You Want to Live?

Everybody dies. Assuming you could choose your time and do not want to live forever in this temporal existence, at what point would you decide turn out the lights and close the door behind you?

Do you feel the need to accomplish something or leave your mark on the world?

Would you leave with any regrets?

Aside from my awesome fashion sense, and @Sunstone's insufferable opinions (and erotic dancing girls), what would you miss the most?

If I were to suffer a horrible terminal illness that would guarantee suffering for the rest of my life, I would want to die.

Also, it I were to be permanently paralyzed in any way - I'd also want to die then.

The thought of being so paralyzed (i.e. quadriplegic) that I wouldn't even be able to kill myself presents itself as the most abhorrent nightmare I can possibly imagine.

I think you may be misunderstanding my question. I'm not asking under what circumstances would you no longer want to live. I'm asking if you could pick your time to stop living, assuming that you'll eventually want to, when would you decide it was an acceptable time?

I think your caps lock key might be stuck.

Can we please give the n00bies more than one post before we decide to stick needles in them? :)

Sad, sad, sad. Do you not think that you need to know what the hell happens down, way down here? I sometimes do. I want to live to be at least a hundred. But other times I will be perfectly OK dying right now.

When I was 45, a long time ago, I started thinking that my life was half over and realized that my goal was to live to be 90. Of course, in decent health. Now I'm considering making 90 an intermediate goal and seeing how I feel at age 90. Assuming the usual assumptions.

Been there, done that, still here.
No-one wants to go, or choose !
I want every minute that I can ever have.
And as to when I go, Pascal has the coin !
With my luck that coin will end on it's edge !

Way down where? Under @Rival's quoted post?

What I would miss the most? When my brain ceases to function, I doubt I will miss anything. Same with regrets, obviously.

I had a friend who was dedicated in her retirement to bringing cheer to children in the hospital through the music she loved. When she was stopped from doing that, she decided she had done what she planned to do and died not so long afterwards.

She was the only one I've known who had that attitude. Others have been OK with dying but no one actively told me that they had accomplished and experienced everything they had planned to do.

I want to live as long as my quality of life is satisfactory. Then away from this used up body I go to better things,
