I'm curious to see just how long people have been atheists.
I am not sure when to count from.
I am not even sure when I first heard the word athist or figured out what it means
.
I have never been religious. The family I grew up in was not religous.
I was baptized though as is tradition where I live and therefore became a member of the
church of Denmark (protestant/lutheran).
Later in my teen I was also confirmed.
I had actually told my mother that I didn't believe in God and didn't see any reason to be confirmed, but then my grandmother told me how much she was looking forward to the event, and I just didn't feel like disapointing her.
So I was confirmed.
I never actually went to church, but I stayed a member until 4 years ago where a priest made me so angry that I filled in the form to leave the church.
EDIT: I was just browsing the wiki page on the
church of Denmark and found the following which I find quite amusing
"the
Minister for Ecclesiastical Affairs, currently
Manu Sareen, as the highest administrative authority of the Church."
Manu Sareen:
Born 16 May 1967 in India
Religion:
Agnostic[1]
So the highest administrative authority of the Church of Denmark is an agnostic from India
Goes to show how seriously people in Denmark take religion
