How Many People Here Are Religious, And How Many Not?

I'm curious to know how many people here are religious and how many are not. I realize that only a small percentage of people who post regularly on the forums will answer, still. I would like to hear from the religious why they think the non religious post here and I would like to hear from the non religious why they do so.

Is it an interest in religion? The discussion on the science forums? Does it allow you to express frustration of living in a spiritual world? Or something else?

For some reason, we have lots of atheists and Hindus, and quite a few heretical Christians.

Most of the staff are either atheists or Hindus or vaguely spiritual.

I sort of wish there were more conventional religious people here.

Yeah the religious in Religious Forums is a bit fraudulent, it promotes anti religion much more than religion, the founder of the forum is an atheist I have heard.

There are plenty of gun lobbyists, Trump supporters, pro-life, anti church state separation, Brexit fans - we've even had people defending family separation.

I think it may be the liberal atheists just have the best arguments.

I think there is such a diversity of views here its best to hear what people have to say rather than making assumptions about them.

I'm here to learn about different Faiths. At the moment I'm enjoying learning about Islam and how that relates to Baha'i and Christian perspectives.

It would be nice to see a few more Muslims here tp help me with that. Plenty of people on RF that clearly don't like Islam though. Funny thing that.

I'm sure. Previous polls have basically confirmed as much. It may have changed now a little with new members arriving, but there are definitely a lot of liberal atheists on this board.

A number of political polls that RF members have taken have clearly and consistently placed the bulk majority of members in the 3rd quadrant. Of course there are some Right-winged members, but not close to as many.
As for atheism, it seems to have been the predominate stance on RF for some time now. Their used to be more religious diversity, and stuff happens and RF went to the atheists.

I post here for thinking discussions on religious topics. I'm sporadic in my posting because of my lifestyle.
I think the non-religious post here for a number of reasons. 1. the non-religious forums 2.because they are missing something in their lives 3. are seeking information on religion for a class 4. trying to sort out all the different forms of a given religion.

As a group they can include anything from atheists to monotheists to polytheists, so in the strict sense, imo, no.

Err, not really. There are plenty of religious people in Canada, Europe, the US, Indonesia, Singapore, Israel etc.

I go to church. I value forgiveness and believe in forgiving others, and I feel that is very important. I also believe in helping people including strangers. These two things are not easy for me. I also feel angry often but do not believe in vengeance. I guess I would say I am about 2 out of 10 on a 10 scale, which probably means I'm really 1 out of 10 which could mean I am zero though I am not allowing zero on the scale. I think I'm like a religious rocket that hasn't launched but is on countdown and has its astronauts.

From a Western perspective I think religion is all about forgiveness and helping the lower classes, those who are weak or not valued, those who can't help themselves. I think people who are from the East tend to view things differently and are more about harmony: harmony in this context, harmony in that context. Usually some form of forgiveness is either incorporated or is a virtue or is a derived concept. All have consciences and are guided by them to some extent, and so all do tend to share some ideas about forgiveness. This is really what I consider 'Religious', and so I also count my time here as a moderator as religious. It is often inspiring to see some people's ability to be gracious and self disciplined. I do see the light coming from people here, and I bask in that.

How would you define an heretical Christian? To me, that would be mainstream fundamentalist . . . well, actually, just about all of them. There are the Jehovah's Witnesses, and myself. Since I agree with them I wouldn't call us heretical, and then there are those who were disillusioned by mainstream heretical Christianity and are trying to figure it out by themselves. They would be labeled as heretical by the heretical, but in my view, not heretical, just lost sheep. How would you define heretical?

We actually did a poll behind the scenes not too long ago. It might surprise you to know that of those that participated in the poll..

42.8% identified as religious (only 7.1% identified as Hindu)
21.4% identified as not religious, but spiritual
35.4% identified as neither

I would say that your assessment of the religiosity or spirituality of the staff is a bit inaccurate.

I think that for the purpose of this thread there are only 2 possibilities. Religious or Not Religious and that is up for the individual to decide. No specific religion, necessarily. All religions or religious in nature. I personally think everyone is religious based upon a simple basic definition of adhering to a strict set of beliefs, but I leave it to the individual to decide what is religious and what is not.

I kinda dont know what religious means. On the boards many Hindu are religious. They have cultural practices that guide their worship and rituals. You can "listen" to them talk about varies practices and ideas specific to their faith in their DIR.

Muslims, Bahai, and some christians are religious. They follow the practices of their scriptures. The latter two give a lot of info on their faith. I thinks its like JW but the former two arent as evangalistic as the latter. Youd rarely hear from jews and catholics about their own faith but a couple of them do comment from time to time.

Of course there are non religious here. Most, I observe also dont like to be put in boxes when asked direct questions. Open ended ones are best.

That is my observation

I think some religious post here to mingle with peers. Some come to share their faith. Some because its fun. Quite a few are searching for the right religion or faith that works for them.

I came here because I was curious. I learned a lot. I was never raised in nor around any religion and faith. I did find out weird words like panthenism, pantheist , diest, and how hinduism isnt one religion.

I found out Im an atheist, panthiest, and former catholic four years of my adult life. Some religious discover new things about themselves.
