We actually did a poll behind the scenes not to long ago. It might surprise you to know that of those that participated in the poll..

42.8% identified as religious (only 7.1% identified as Hindu)
21.4% identified as not religious, but spiritual
35.4% identified as neither

I would say that your assessment of the religiosity or spirituality of the staff is a bit inaccurate.

That's a whole lot of atheists and Hindus.

I'd like to see if the other staff members agree with your assessment of their beliefs. You got mine wrong...

The vote in this poll fell nearly halved with 51.7% identifying as religious and 48.3% identifying as atheist/agnostic. I don't see how you are arriving at the conclusion that this is poll places RF demographics as "overwhelmingly atheists/agnostics."
There are a lot of atheists compared to a scattering of various religious people. I mean as a bunch of people unified by some sort of belief. Compared to world stats, this place has a lot of atheists.

Is there also an element that liberal atheists are more computer literate than other groups.
Let's be honest, some religions even try to dissuade their adherents from using the internet and being exposed to all that heathen nonsense.

I think there is some truth to that, but, on the other hand, I'm barely computer literate and have my own website I made from scratch. HTML. I taught myself HTML enough to make a website to my satisfaction, but wouldn't consider myself HTML or computer literate by much. Just enough to get by.

I was raised in a Catholic household, and one Friday a group of Pastafarians came to my door and convinced me to convert. ;)
I guess all I'm really saying is, atheists have a whole lot of other atheists on this board to pal around with. Christians have a few other Christians, Muslims have a few other Muslims, but no group has anywhere near as many 'allies' as atheists, I suppose I could put it.

How would you define an heretical Christian? To me, that would be mainstream fundamentalist . . . well, actually, just about all of them. There are the Jehovah's Witnesses, and myself. Since I agree with them I wouldn't call us heretical, and then there are those who were disillusioned by mainstream heretical Christianity and are trying to figure it out by themselves. They would be labeled as heretical by the heretical, but in my view, not heretical, just lost sheep. How would you define heretical?
We have a lot on here with what I might call heterodox beliefs, which I would term as being outside of the Orthodox, Catholic and Protestant mainstream fold.

I do my best to pal around with and get along with everyone, regardless of religious affiliation. There are likely fewer with my views than in most groups here.

Someone (was it Dawkins?) once said of atheists and I paraphrase, "Getting a group of atheists to agree is like trying to herd cats"

What that means is they like to debate, discuss, argue and increase their knowledge in doing so.
Hence atheists like forums where they can discuss ideas with like and different people.

This is basically a liberal atheist board.
Results of the poll by the time I voted show otherwise.

I think the "General" sections just end up being where most views are able to be actively challenged - which is my guess as to why you might feel an over-representation of atheists in sections like that. Otherwise, my guess is that the poll results are fairly accurate, and the majority of users are religious in some form.

I would also take a (tongue-in-cheek) guess that we atheists tend to be a lot more memorable.

I wish there were a religious forum with the same mix of religions here, that did not allow non religious posters, I didn't come here to listen to atheists, their lack of faith does not impress me one bit.

What my point was, as enumerated above, is that there are little groups of religious people, a smattering of Christians, a pinch of Jews, a flick of Baha'is, and then a whole dollop of atheists. Atheists make up the largest group on here.
