How most Muslims feel on Baha'is

Greetings everyone,
First, I should probably point out that I am not a Muslim. However, my respect for the beautiful religion is plentiful. It is not an exaggeration (but may be a stereotype :p) that some of the nicest souls I have encountered have been Muslims. Just goes to show the power God has to build bonds.

I've recently been studying the Baha'i Faith and unfortunately have come across the persecution Baha'is face in Islamic countries. I can understand why a devout Muslim may have issues with the Baha'i Faith, but the way followers of it are treated is not peaceful in the slightest. I was wondering, how do most Muslims feel about the persecution of Baha'is (or Baha'is themselves?) I'm sure that's been brought up a thousand times before, but I can't seem to work the search!

I'm a Baha'i from an Islamic background. I became a Baha'i 16 months ago.

My family members were extremely angry over my acceptance of Baha'u'llah. My mother had disowned me for a very short period, although now she is more tolerant of the faith.

I recently heard of one Nepali Muslim who became a Baha'i. He came from a rich land-owning agricultural family, and his father threw him out of the house and severed all ties. Having only a little money in his pocket, he traveled to India where he managed to set up a small convenience store five years later with the help of his sister, who was settled there. His parents later came to meet him, and accepted his choice in spiritual beliefs. I assume this sums up Muslim family views towards Baha'is - any declaration is treated with non-violent hostility which varies in different degrees.

Also the orthodoxy of the family plays a major role. I come from a wahaabi background, but my family is very liberal compared to other wahaabis. Sufis, on the other hand, don't show any hostility towards us. I happen to be friends with a Sufi, and we talk for hours on spiritual matters without any argument.

I come from India, a secular country. Honour killings are treated as murder and subject to strict punishment by the state. In countries like Iran where state-sponsored persecution takes place, the authorities turn a blind eye to such incidents. While state-sponsored executions of Baha'is have become rarer, they still continue to persist.

Nevertheless, there are few Muslims who have raised their voices against Baha'i persecution. Here's a website by them - www (.) bahairights (.) org

All I know is that they are persecuted in Iran. No one I know really speaks about Baha'is. so I am not sure. I believe that their prophet is a false one yes, but I wouldn't persecute him or his followers.

Unfortunately what you will find that in modern society when you hear the term "Islamic state" persecution will be soon to follow. The majority of these corrupt governments act in accordance with the hard liners and ignore the persecution and harm that befalls many of their non Muslim citizens. What you will find is that these leaders persecute Muslims as much as if not more than any one else. Sunnis, Shias, Sufis, Kurds, Ahmadis (though I do not personally believe the sect to be Muslim) have all been subject to the most horrible of treatment. It saddens me that these brutes are termed with the word "Muslim".

For what it's worth half of these people are illiterates who have not even read the Qur'an. There was an article that mentioned that the gov. in Pakistan helped set up a rehabilitation center for brain washed youth trained by the Taliban. They had been told that the Qur'an singled out Christians and Hindus for persecution and that that American, Indian, and American backed government had to be attacked until they collapsed. It really is shocking how such groups totally change the religion to back up their political goals.

I won't call for their persecution of course, but I don't (like most Muslims) believe that their prophet is true. Simply because it's in our Islamic beliefs, that Muhamed (pbuh) is the last prophet, and Islam is the final word from God.

persecution of anyone based on religious beliefs alone is wrong, in my opinion. whether i agree or disagree with their belief system doesn't matter and doesn't give me (or anyone else) the right to treat them poorly.

Allah SWT states in the Qur'an that if people who are not Muslims are not attacking you (Muslim), and if they want peace, then you as a Muslim must not attack them and must want peace too. Any attack towards ANYONE who is not Muslim and who is not attacking a Muslim is not justified according to Allah SWT.

So, I think any Muslim upholding to Allah's SWT commandments in the Qur'an in terms of how you should treat other humans on Earth will not persecute another person who does not cause harm to others.

Families, regardless be they Muslim or not, will always get upset if a family member converts to something other then their religion.
Of course, some Muslims have resorted to the lowest kind of responses :(

From little what I know about Baha'is is that they are peacefull people who desire to unite people of different faiths into one. They believe that all religions teach the same truth and that all religious leaders of the world were a different manifestation of the Divine.
Bahai faith started in Iran and has not spread much in the Middle East. The most persecution against Bahai followers do happen in Iran.

Hey PVE1 how are you doing? i am glad you respect Islam and it's followers!

Regarding your question we Muslims in general view Bahai's negatively (Shi'ites perhaps more severely because Bahai'ism and its branches came out of the Shi'ite sect) Bahai's make all sorts of false and deceptive claims about Islam the Shariah and the Holy Quran (every Bahai claim has been refuted extensively by our Ulema/Scholars)

If you are truly interested in a more detailled response to the Bahai religion take a look at this website it's from a Shi'ite perspective i am personally not a Shi'i, but the website is very interesting and well researched. http://www.bahaiawareness.com/bahai13.html

I am Muslim and I respect Bahai people, as indeed spiritual people of all faiths. I dont know much about the religion though. At any rate, any violence or persecution against Bahai's because of their belief is condemnable and unislamic.
