How One Unvaccinated Child Caused a Measles Outbreak

Interesting story about how just one unvaccinated child caused a measles outbreak.

Can the problem of misinformation about vaccines be solved anytime soon? Why or why not?

As long as anti-intellectualism and a growing distrust of science among laypeople persists, it appears that such incidents will continue, and probably increase.

I was always under the impression that something like vaccinations, which are clearly and demonstrably shown to protect the health of the public-at-large, were legally required, especially if you wanted to attend school or daycare.

It's just sad how many children are going to get sick and/or die because of the large number of people who are ignorant about the facts regarding vaccinations and autism.

I see this as a matter related to the rise of Anti-Evolutionism. The enabler circunstances seem to be much the same: superstition, trust issues and lack of scientific education.

It is however slightly easier to understand when it involves an actual practical choice involving the health of family members.

Any solution would have to involve an effort at improving scientific education, IMO. Although I suppose it would be even better to have better social integration and set the example in order to earn the needed trust.

It would be nice if the CIA didn't use it as pretext to fight terrorists, what have you... but that is more of a polio issue, and one only partially relevant to Kenya.

And they will not give MMR in separate doses; spaced and safer vaccines in order to harm and cause these problems. That is important to them to keep down the vaccinated numbers.

Such is the under arch.

The vaccines are safe, and spacing them out actually has been shown to cause MORE problems rather than fewer.

Court ruling: parents don't have the right to send their unvaccinated kids to school - Vox

In New York City, parents do not have the right to send their unvaccinated kids to school if another student has a vaccine-preventable illness.

That's according to a Brooklyn Federal District Court judge, who ruled earlier this month that a parent's constitutional right to freely exercise their religion does not always make their children exempt from vaccination requirements.

New York City schools require all students to get a series of basic vaccinations in order to attend classes. But in New York State — along with several other states — laws say that parents can opt out of these requirements for religious reasons.

A step in the right direction, NYC. Hopefully NY will be the third state that does not allow exemptions, and hopefully the other 47 will follow suit, sooner rather than later.

Ah you're one of the people who say 'If you get the MMR vaccine you'll get autism AND YOU WONT LIKE HUGS!'

Which is wrong. MMR is safe.

But even if it wasn't. Even if it did give 1 in 1000 children autism, which it doesn't, that's still 999 children who don't get measles, mumps, rubeller/other assorted nasties. As opposed to the 1000 who would if you didn't vaccinate them.
