How to get better sleep at night?

I tried to ask this same question on another forum, which I won't mention, but all I got was pathetic attempts at trolling & dox threats.

Anybody got any advice?...

Hmm, well, there are a lot of common solutions, but I assume you have already done some googling and know the basic library of ideas on this? The things that seem to help me the most are:

An absolute ban on electronics/internet/etc the last hour or two before bedtime
Chamomile and/or lavender tea
Meditation for a little while before bed, but not IN bed as it works a lot better as something with boundaries. I usually sit in my little altar/reflection area and watch a candle burning for a while if the sleep isn't happening, and only return to bed when I'm ready to try again for sleep.

Glass Half milk/half water and 2, Diphenhydramine HCl 25 mg Benadryl tablets.
Nite Quill also works but makes me wossy if I have to get up early and I don't like the other chemicals.

I've tried natural remedies no help. I got stronger stuff from the doctor and it gave me problems during the day.

Breath Rite strips help. Less snoring = better sleep.

Ear plugs if sound is an issue.

Don't watch TV in bed.

Don't nap during the day.

1) Bed is for sleep, so go to bed when you're tired, not before.
2) Don't think about sleep. And don't think about anything of consequence. I might think about how comfortable bed is, or about sports or something, but anything more consequential causes issue.
3) Invest in a good pillow

Sorry, ain't got nothing for you. I sleep quite nicely as a rule with the occasional bad night. (long term diabetic 66 year old)
I believe in keeping a set routine and that this helps, I drink plenty of juice, grapefruit at night, with a tiny bit of chocolate spread through the evening, good music and books until bed time, some strawberries in milk around ten, no sugar. Some people say not to sleep during the daytime, however, I always have an early afternoon nap, and I still sleep nicely at night.

I'm only saying the above to show you what I do that perhaps affect my sleeping habits. Of course, the fact that you are Pastafarian and me being Christian might be the deciding difference. :D

It would help if you gave more information. Some people have trouble falling asleep. Others fall asleep easily but wake up and can't get back to sleep.

Set yourself up so your room slowly cools down while you sleep and then warms up again. That will probably help.

Do some safe exercises. If your muscles are weak that contributes to uncomfortable sleep, constantly turning to find the right position. If you are out of shape you probably are going to have to sleep on your back. Elevate your knees on a very thick cushion so that they are up in the air to give your lower back a little bit of relief.

Think about something your brain wants to avoid, some kind of learning or appreciation that it wants to move away from so it will embrace the inaction of darkness. Some people fall asleep if they try to watch science fiction. Some people fall asleep reading history. Perhaps reading something you have already read before?

When you sleep is your head back with air passages open or is your chin pushed towards your chest? That could be an issue.

I always take Melatonin 20 mg. A psychiatrist I used to see said that was the max dose but not too high a dose and it was much better than taking xanax (alprazolam) as I used to take for years. I also take 100 mg of 5 HTP in the morning. I also exercise a lot and that is supposed to be good for sleep, but not close to bedtime. Sometimes I watch a little TV before going to sleep and I always get tired and fall asleep so I usually miss the end of the program. :(

I always have a cat on my pillow and one down at my feet. I also always have a box fan going on high speed. :)
Worrying keeps some people from falling asleep... I have a lot to worry about but I live in the present time and try not to think of the future... If I did I would go insane... :eek:
