First, I'll say that this belongs in this forum because it's
about preserving one's health....& money.
This guy gives sage advice about how to reduce
the odds of getting a ticket....or possibly worse.
I'd summarize it but there are too many nuances.

Be safe out there, people....even those of you I loathe.

I once had some PA state cops stop when I was broken
down on the road. The very first thing I said was that I
had a permit, & that I was carrying a concealed handgun.
(This is required in MI, but not in PA.)
They remained at ease, & didn't even want to see & secure
Mr Glock. They helped me find a tow & a shop for a new
alternator at a fair price.

The trick is to play the game. To the extent you can....
Be old, white, female, polite, non-threatening, ordinary,
respectable, considerate, & honest (within limits...never
confess to anything).
You can never know if you're dealing with a bad cop.
But even they can be good to you. Encourage that.

It's a great video but one nit - if you are the one really polite person who does everything he says you might just be remarkable because of your actions!

Other than that, yes, great video.

And being polite and helpful in dealing with receptionists and support people and others knowing that they are also under stress can have very positive results.

Better to be remembered for being likeable.
I'll take that risk.
I treat everyone well....except for that one RF poster.
You know what they are like.

Of course as we see in almost daily news stories, being young, black and male is really really dangerous. Doing what he says really reduces the odds of a fatal outcome.

Sorry to disagree but is this not solely an American thing? It's not "health" as intended for the forum.

Some interactions with cops have been very unhealthy.
This advice is useful in many other countries (so N American
Politics, a debate forum, would be wrong). But other countries
might need adjustment for local conditions.

If you want it moved to another forum, you may request it.

Being male is dangerous.
95% of cop shootings are of males, including white guys.

Good info.

Remembering, when my daughter was about 5 and sitting in the back seat, being stopped for speeding. I put my dome lights on and put my window down. When he came to my car, my daughter started crying hysterically and shouting, "PLEASE DON'T TAKE MY DAD TO JAIL", again and again.

With a quick "Sir, please slow down" he left. :D

Several of these are uncontrollable factors, that's should not even matter. Age, skin color, and gender for one. And what is "ordinary"? Seems like just another attempt at defining that vague notion of "normalcy".

We don't live in a perfect world.
Cope with the imperfections, & work for change.
But if you really want to employ all of your rights,
you're doing what "auditors" do. They sometimes
make a lot of money from cop misbehavior. But
it also has its risks & inconveniences.

I didn't watch all of it but I got ~8 minutes in and I thought that was all common knowledge. That is my exact process.

When I get pulled over, my job is to ensure we both get out of this thing safely and professionally as possible. Most of that can be controlled by me. "Yes sir/ma'm, no sir/ma'm... I am unsure, sir/ma'm." Hands in plain sight with the lights on. I also ask the officer if I am okay to reach for something.

"Can I see your license registration?"
"Yes sir/ma'm, my registration is in my glovebox, may I reach for it?"

I don't always get away with it but sometimes I do.

So... I just need to have a 5 year old in the car and I get off scot-free? Good to know! :D

1. Know your legal rights, you are only legally required to provide your name, date of birth, driver's license, registration and proof of insurance.

2. Don't answer questions! Remember, you have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law.

3. Act as if you own them, they don't own you! For your protection, film and record the cops.

4, You aren't legally obliged to answer the cop's questions, but they are obliged to answer some questions.

5. Ask, the cop, am I being recorded? May I please have your name and badge number.? Why am I being detained? Am I under arrest? Am I free to go?

6. Let the cops know you do NOT consent to any search of your property!

7. We as sovereign citizens own the police, we must not allow them to own us!

Know when to bend, & when not to (but doing so deftly).
But don't consent to a search. Don't admit any violation.
