While I agree that tat khAlsa followers often have the tendency to minimize the influence of Hinduism on Sikhism (Sikhism is probably the closest religion I know of to Hinduism), I would have to agree with Treks and ranvIr here. Sikhism and Hinduism ARE independent belief systems.Yes, some people never get it or will never accept it. Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji was one of the greatest exponents of Upanishads. If you accept differences, you are not following Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. :tsk:

ਗੁਸਾਈ = ਗੋ-ਸਾਈਂ, ਧਰਤੀ ਦਾ ਖਸਮ। ਅਲਹੁ = ਅੱਲਾ (ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਾਸਤੇ।
ਮੇਰਾ ਤਾਂ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਉਹ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਗੁਸਾਈਂ (ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ ਅੱਲਾ (ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਮੈਂ ਮੱਕੇ ਦੀ ਯਾਤਰਾ ਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ, ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ ਧਰਮ ਅਸਥਾਨਾਂ ਤੇ ਉਪਾਸ਼ਨਾ ਕਰਦਹਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਜਾਉ ਨ = ਜਾਉਂ ਨ, ਮੈਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ।

ਕਰਉ ਨ = ਕਰਉਂ ਨ, ਮੈਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ। ਨਿਵਾਜ = ਨਿਮਾਜ਼। ਨ ਗੁਜਾਰਉ = ਨ ਗੁਜਾਰਉਂ, ਮੈਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਗੁਜ਼ਾਰਦਾ, ਮੈਂ (ਨਿਮਾਜ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੜ੍ਹਦਾ।

ਇੱਕ ਸਰੂ ਰਹਿਤ ਸਾਈਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਅੰਦਰ ਟਿਕਾ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਓਥੇ ਹੀ ਬੰਦਨਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਲੈ = ਲੈ ਕੇ। ਰਿਦੈ = ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ। ਨਮਸਕਾਰਉ = ਨਮਸਕਾਰਉਂ, ਮੈਂ ਸਿਰ ਨਿਵਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੩॥

अलह राम के पिंडु परान ॥४॥
Alah rām ke pind parān. ||4||
My body and breath of life belong to Allah - to Raam - the God of both. ||4||
ਮੇਰੀ ਦੇਹ ਅਤੇ ਜਿੰਦੜੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮਲਕੀਅਤ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਖੁਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਹਿੰਦੂਆਂ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਖਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪਿੰਡ = ਸਰੀਰ। ਪਰਾਨ = ਪ੍ਰਾਣ, ਜਿੰਦ। ਕੇ = ਦੇ (ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹੋਏ ॥੪॥
ਸਾਡੇ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਸਾਡੀ ਇਹ ਜਿੰਦ (ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ (ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ ਅੱਲਾ (ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਰਾਮ (ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਇਹੁ ਕੀਆ ਵਖਾਨਾ ॥
कहु कबीर इहु कीआ वखाना ॥
Kaho Kabīr ih kī▫ā vakẖānā.
Says Kabeer, this is what I say:
ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਸੱਚ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
ਕਹੁ = ਆਖ। ਕਬੀਰ = ਹੇ ਕਬੀਰ!
ਹੇ ਕਬੀਰ! ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਖੋਲ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
ਗੁਰ ਪੀਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਖੁਦਿ ਖਸਮੁ ਪਛਾਨਾ ॥੫॥੩॥
गुर पीर मिलि खुदि खसमु पछाना ॥५॥३॥
Gur pīr mil kẖuḏ kẖasam pacẖẖānā. ||5||3||
meeting with the Guru, my Spiritual Teacher, I realize God, my Lord and Master. ||5||3||
ਕਿ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਪੈਗੰਬਰ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਾਈਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ = ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ। ਪੀਰ ਮਿਲਿ = ਪੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ। ਖੁਦਿ = ਆਪਣਾ ॥੫॥੩॥
ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ-ਪੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਰੱਖੀ ਹੈ ॥੫॥੩॥
In essence above shabad states the (Kabir ji wrote but Guru ji felt fit to select and include in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and indicating agreement with it) dialog with but one creator and hence do not feel the need for the Hinduism, Islamic or other rituals or practices. One creator and seeking wisdom of the same directly versus any intermediaries in persons, deities, organizations or hierarchies.
These teaching encouraging uplifting and freedom of the human souls established fundamentals of Sikhism thought. Bypassing of the established religious leaderships, organizations, subservience to such was addressed up front by Guru ji. It was not much liked by either the Hindu masters/Brahmins or the people in-charge of Islam/Kazis. He brought everyone down from their pedestals and made all equal including self, you and me. He paid the price through his own martyrdom.

ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ-ਪੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਰੱਖੀ ਹੈ ॥੫॥੩॥
In essence above shabad states the (Kabir ji wrote but Guru ji felt fit to select and include in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and indicating agreement with it) dialog with but one creator and hence do not feel the need for the Hinduism, Islamic or other rituals or practices. One creator and seeking wisdom of the same directly versus any intermediaries in persons, deities, organizations or hierarchies.
These teaching encouraging uplifting and freedom of the human souls established fundamentals of Sikhism thought. Bypassing of the established religious leaderships, organizations, subservience to such was addressed up front by Guru ji. It was not much liked by either the Hindu masters/Brahmins or the people in-charge of Islam/Kazis. He brought everyone down from their pedestals and made all equal including self, you and me. He paid the price through his own martyrdom.

Seriously? Jaskaran Singh ji, I hope u do realise that u r just adding strength to my statement by these shabads and not the other way. I think u were born in a Sikh family, am I correct? If so and the reply was against my fire and water argument, I must say u don't understand Gurubani at all.
But to give u benefit of doubt, I will give u time to clarify ur position if u think Sikhism is different to Hinduism or otherwise and what the above shabad really means.
