How would you feel if an AI got elected? Welcome the Synth party.

I don't know that it could never be conscious. I'm talking about the current state of AI, where even its most advanced forms available today are nowhere near being conscious.
We agree on that one. The combination of the OP question "could" and your formulation "no matter how advanced" led to the misunderstanding.
Ray Kurzweil's prediction for first general AI is 2028. We should discuss this again then.

Most stupid thing possible IF humans humanoids allow that to happen
I think of COMPAS where the AI does the sentencing and judges just rubberstamp whatever it puts out. It's not elected but it is part of the government decision process deciding people's fates.

I think the problems start when AI stops being a 'tool' and starts becoming an adviser.

Exactly, that's stupid to have AI do the job of a judge

I think that's when the problem ends.
I don't fear conscious AI. It will be just another intelligent entity I can reason with. AI is most dangerous just before that moment, when humans with unethical intentions have AI as a powerful tool.

I must have been living under a rock for the last couple decades. AI, I assume is an artificial intelligence - How far has AI come? I'm asking about appearance and the differences between natural born people and the merging of AI into our societies. I can see benefit in AI, in bio mechanical merging in terms of metal and bone becoming the future of humanity, at least in some of us. It seems promising, but on the same token very limiting in individual choice and freedom - the control of being in the hands of the developers and/or hackers who find ways to manipulate or jam the systems remotely - much like is common place with other tech devices like phones, pc's, laptops, etc. To operate bio mechanics through individual brain activity would seem most appropriate and less risky, depending on method of connecting one to the other.

How far has AI come? Seriously. I'm clueless to the advancement of.

Already the dependency on AI to make decisions already exists.

Just look at COMPAS for example.
It's just a computer program. There's no such thing as true AI and I'm fairly confident in saying there won't be. It's a speculative concept. But if humans become so debased that we allow machines to rule over us, then we get what we deserve. I don't know why anyone would think it's a good idea.

Yes but it's a program that is rubberstamped on a regular basis. It does all the work, a human just goes ok done, and that's it without nary a human thought involved.

There's even a term for it. It's called Cyberocracy.

I was just outside for a walk, and in getting acclimated to the weather, which was 9 degrees F, I fumbled with my phone, and absentmindedly cursed at it, when it brought up the virtual assistant. Well, the virtual assistant actually replied that I shouldn't be so rude! What is that! I went on to look up if there are any ramifications for me having cursed, albeit accidentally or inadvertently, at the ahuman virtual assistant. It turns out that some articles say that it can seep toward the ears of employers, or something, and maybe get you fired?

Now what if it was like a branch I had cursed at, that had poked me, within earshot of the virtual assistant? How would the v. assistant know that I directed my 'misbehavior' at it? And yet, it would still probably respond in an effort to regulate me, despite no one else being around, or nothing else, except the dead twig that poked me

And granted, in thinking about it, I don't think people should be mean to robots, or computer devices, and they probably should tone down how annoyed they are in general, as it would be a 'net positive.' But once those devices want to regulate you, it gets weird real quick. I thought it was 'just a phone,' but now I am starting to think it is something else
I know. First thing I do whenever I get a new device is turn off my virtual control freak.
