HP Puts Trump Campaign in Entertainment

Hmm, I am a bit divided, but ultimately I do support the Post's decision.

Sure, that means they chose not to pretend to respect Trump's candidacy. Which is better than the alternative of pretending to.

There is some risk in that because we might all be surprised, I suppose. Perhaps Trump means to win or something. But I applaud the courage of the Post.

Mm, it's a situation where if the loons at HP are talking about it, there must be something to it. But anyone with even a modicum of respect for basic journalism will use the BBC. **** American news, left & right.
Americans don't do journalism anymore, I don't think. Far too many times I find myself yelling at the TV for the "journalist" to ask the follow up or challenge the "fact" that has just been presented only to watch them just change the subject. I tend to get most of my news online.

More power to them, as they are free to do what they want with their own paper. And, there is something to be said for the fact that Trump's candidacy is a side-show. After the McCain ordeal, I'm not sure whether he is going to do anything but harm to the Republican party.
He's alluded that if he doesn't take the GOP nomination, he'll run third party. I really want to see him in a debate with Bernie Sanders. It shouldn't take more than 5 minutes for Trump to be left with nothing but "you're ugly and you're momma dresses you funny".

I don't think that Huffington Post even attempts to conceal their bias. HuffPo, Breitbart, The Blaze, Fox News and MSNBC all now have fairly openly partisan and ideological aims. The way that news is produced and consumed has just changed.
I think we put too much emphasis on the probably mythological state of "fair and balanced". Whenever there are facts which clearly dispute what a candidate is saying, say with climate change, I want the journalist to point that out rather than allow some candidate to over-emphasize at less than 3% rate of disagreement with reality. Otherwise, we all have to become climate scientists in order to sniff out the truth. I think it's less important to feel like you're getting your news from an unbiased source (though that clearly should be strived for by the journalist) than to be intelligent and confident enough to spot the bias when you see it.

The Huffington Post has decided to move the Donald campaign from the Political section, to the Entertainment section.

Regardless of whether you think the Don is off his rocker or not, do you think this is what a newspaper should be doing?

It's kind of funny as a one-off gag. However, if they actually do this on a consistent basis, it's not only not entertaining, but also rather petty.

What they should be doing, along with everyone else, is probably just ignoring him altogether.

*sigh*

C-SPAN, y'all. C-SPAN. It's boring and has whole unedited videos and ****.
BBC is still better. Because they put in just enough effort so you don't have to watch six hundred hours of wrinkly old men & women just barely hide their utter scorn for the peasants before they vote on something utterly meaningless, trying to resist the urge to scratch their genitals.

(That mental image is on the house, by the by. No need to thank me)

That's hilarious. They should move him to their comics section if they have one...

I don't know if that debate would be one of the funniest things I could ever see, or absolutely disheartening that Trump can even talk about running for president.

I don't think that Bernie should debate Trump. It would be a waste of everyone's time.

It would be funny, however, if someone pranked Trump into debating with a comedian or a small child.

I respect Bernie and would hate to see the dignity of his office mocked by debating with some random moron who just wanted some of his limelight.

George Carlin and Trump would have been hilarious, except Carlin probably wouldn't have wasted his time.
Dave Chapelle and Trump, I'd probably be laughing so hard I'd have tears rolling down my eyes and nasty pains in my stomach and chest.

I like internet news aggregators because I don't do TV or radio news.
Drudge's format is dense with titles to linked articles in a friendly format....which is very old school & amateurish.
And it has a wide variety of news, often being the first to break major stories.

How can they can be the first to break a story if they are aggregating the stories of others?

Thought this was more interesting, tbh:

"Rupert Murdoch’s Donald Trump Nightmare: He Can’t Control the Monster Fox News Created
Even the powerful mogul can’t stop his biggest media asset from acting as Trump’s biggest booster.
By Sophia Tesfaye / Salon

If there seems to be a split in the way Rupert Murdoch-owned media outlets are covering the presidential campaign of Donald Trump that’s because one of Murdoch’s holdings is reportedly out of control — Murdoch can’t get Fox News to stop positively covering The Donald.

According to New York Magazine’s Gabriel Sherman, the conservative media mogul has been unsuccessful in his attempt to wield influence over the editorial decisions of Fox News CEO Roger Ailes. Sherman reports that Ailes has pushed Fox’s on-air personalities to defend Trump’s controversial comments in recent weeks, boasting that the conservative network was covering the Trump campaign to his personal specifications. For his part, Murdoch appears to be dead set against a Trump candidacy, publicly blasting the Republican’s incendiary rhetoric: "When is Donald Trump going to stop embarrassing his friends, let alone the whole country?"

Trump, who has a longstanding relationship with Fox News, met with Ailes for an extended lunch around the time of his announcement and has called the cable news executive “one of the great geniuses in television history.” During the month of June, Trump appeared on Fox 10 times, amounting to 1 hour and 48 minutes of free airtime from the network and it’s become evident that there is little Murdoch can do to stop it. According to Sherman, Murdoch, whose 21st Century Fox is the parent company of Fox News, recently called Ailes to ask him to “back off the Trump coverage.” Trump was back on “Fox & Friends“, a show where he held weekly appearances before entering the presidential race, this morning to push-back against all of the negative scrutiny his stunt giving out Lindsey Graham’s personal cell number generated. Per usual, the host provided Trump his softball interview. And as Sherman points out, “yesterday, at a campaign event in South Carolina where he gave out Lindsey Graham’s personal cell-phone number, Trump heaped praise on Fox & Friends’ Doocy, Brian Kilmeade, and Elisabeth and Hasselbeck, ‘They’re great people.’” Sherman, a veteran Fox News observer, describes “Fox & Friends” as “a show that is used by Ailes to inject his point of view into debates.”"
