In a way it makes some biological evolutionary sense. We evolve culturally as well as physically, and to focus yourself on improving things for future generations is a laudable social evolutionary goal.

I recommend reading 'The Meme Machine" by Susan Blackmore for some theories (small 't') on how to think in evolutionary terms about ideas.

I have to admit, I was skeptical of the concept of "memes" until the advent of the interwebs...

While internet memes are generally silly minor things, they are a perfect example in fast forward of the concept.

Well, the meme concept is hardly an established Theory, but it is an interesting way of looking at how these things spread.
Would be cool to see some actual research done on it.

Oh I realize it's only a hypothesis... :cool:

I'm not exactly sure how it would be experimentally tested, which is one reason I'm still not totally behind the concept.
