Human Cloning

Clones do not have the skills or knowledge of their donors... they are much a blank slate as any other being born.

Clone Einstein and you just get someone who looks like Einstein.

So you don't think a clone of a genius would have the same mental capacity, not memories just ability, as the donor? So if we clone a person they would be dumber than the original sorta handicap? Huh, ok if that's what you think. Sure hope that doesn't happen when god makes a person of a person of a person of a person aww you get it!

We have the ability to create a human. We have been given the knowledge to create a life from next to nothing. We can alter the DNA anyway we chose and make that human look the way we want them to look. So, What's the hold up? Why is everyone so scared to clone a human? I don't see a problem with letting them do it, do you?

The question for me is why would someone want to clone a person? Were we not happy with a real one? Do we want a pet? Just becouse we can or what? For what purpose? Is it to just satisfy some curiousity? What would be a good enough insentive for cloning people?

Who would be the parent aside from a lab and flask? What would their life become?
Added afterwards: I agree with amill. I wouldn't want to be an experiment!

Intelligence isn't purely genetic... lots of factors go int being smart and creative. Nutrition, early childhood exposure to reading, exposure to toxins, parasites, music, parental influence and on and on.

Something as simple as catching the parasite whipworm can have a dramatic negative effect on learning. The parasite so drains the host that infected children are too tired and anemic to focus in school and absorb information.
So, keep your children away from dog and cat feces.

Hopefully you get another being with the capacities and capabilities of Einstein. Then we get into nature vs. nurture and a whole 'nother argument.

I've heard this as well. I think it's thier way of trying to resurrect the dead. If they do this successfully, will they try working on other animals or even worse dead people like paroahs or albert einstien then we could have his inteligence again?

Wow... good thinking. I never thought of that. Could you imagine bringing a Pharoah back to life? Crazy...

If current clones are anything to go by... it's a very complex mix of nature and nurture... with nurture/environment coming out ahead in importance.

This is true but, realistically if they do clone a human it will be of the smartest person they can find Dna from. They would also want to keep that clone in a sterile enviroment and control it's exposure to the world. I agree that the first human clone would be an experimental life with real chance at a normal life. Everything it eats, drinks, reads, learns or does will be decided for him. It would be under the complete control of scientist, trying to make it the "Super Human". It will be kept in a cage just like they do with animals. But, everyone is ok with them doing it with animals just not humans?

Realistically... it will be the person who is willing to not only pay for it but break the law for it.

A child kept in such circumstances will be deeply troubled and behaviorally damaged.
No responsible scientist would ever engage in such treatment of another human being. Cloned humans would still receive all the rights of any other human being under international law, so such treatment would be illegal.

Much of the work with animals is funded by rich people wanting to recreate a favorite pet or stud animal. There is little such incentive with human cloning.

This only means that when it is done it will be done in secret. Money makes people stupid. It'll only take one really rich person to lose a loved one that they want back to pay for it. Or, one "Mad" scientist intent on proving the world wrong! Just saying!

Regardless... it won't be done to produce a "super-human".

Plus, the process to create a human clone would require more than one scientist, mad or not. Biotechnology of this level isn't something you can do alone on the cheap.

For one, you need a woman willing to surrogate... a team of doctors to oversee the implantation, doctors to oversee the gestation, delivery and health of the child.
You need an egg donor and a genetic donor... a lab crew to prepare the eggs and genetic material and produce the cloned eggs.
Finally you need people to fund the lab, pay the salaries, buy the equipment and pay to raise the child.

It's definitely a team effort. And it only takes one person to get cold feet to make sure there is an investigation.

There is no good and ethical reason to clone a person.
It will never be the same person as before.
It is another individual.

There is one movie that just came to my mind when i read the topic title : "The Island". Have you ever seen it?

Yes, really good movie. Cloning my own organs or parts for transplants, I have no discord with that whatsoever. But, not a fully funtioning human being. But, you're right. The circumstances and experiences of a persons life makes them who they are and how they think about everything. Einstein wouldn't be the same person.

We all have our side in what could or couldn't be. The problem is that, even if millions resist just One person can mess it up for the rest. One group secret group with lots of money and power can try to prove this belief. It is against "World Law" but what about a nation with content for the laws and sanctions of the mass?

What would be the purpose? Just to see if we could? Because it's not as if we need more people. And even if it's just to see if we have the technology to do it, I'd be worried that the clone wouldn't get to live his life like the rest of us. He'd be a science project.

I don't see how a clone would be any different than a delayed twin. There's no reason why a clone would grow up knowing the same things as the donor.

Like Amill said: what would be the ultimate purpose? What would be the benefits? Why do we need human clones walking around in an already overpopulated world?
These are questions that should be answered first.

I don't know. I just have specific questions about it. Not to really jump on any side without considering the other. But, how would clones be treated? As an experiement and property or an actually human being?

Like that one guy mentions. "The Island" paints a good scenerio. Not the only scenerio, but a potential one. And, uh, I just do not doubt people are being cloned and experiments are happening in secret somewhere in the world. I mean, there's people even working on cloning meat for crying out loud, lol.

When I step off the fence and choose my side, I chose not to clone life period any life animal or man "God" is doing a great job. Extinct animals are extinct for a reason. We know how delicate the nature of our universe and world is. Tipping the scales to much one way and can all collapse. Man kind is in a race with itself and doesn't take time to understand what it is fooling with. Cloneing cells and organs for medical reasons, I can agree with all others no thanks. Religously speaking cloneing a human is like telling "God" we don't need you we can do it better or atleast on our on. I want no part of that. Scientifically speaking the frialty of our eco systems, I wouldn't want to disturb. We have seen what happened with africanized honey bees, and transplant certain animals into new habitats with no natural predator our plants that over run wet lands because of human foolishness. My dad always told me, "If it ain't broke don't fix it."

You can use the same argument against medicine, agriculture, houses, fire and any other technology.

I understand your point. Lets add the fact that everything operates polarly and has its good and bad side (i.e opposite componant). What's on the other end of, "the creation of mankind?" I don't think someone would have to say any more... IMO.
