Of course the number 12 had great significanse as an astrological number - which got carrried over into many religions. It was no accident that number was incorporated into Christianity.

12 Apostles and 1 Savior makes 13 total. 13 is a lucky number for many Witches. Just one more thing the Christians stole from the Pagans. :(

The number 12 represents the 12 signs of the Zodiac. Jesus having 12 disciples who he traveled with is symbolic of the sun traveling through each of the 12 "houses" of each sign over the course of the age of Pisces, which is the astrological age Jesus represents (the Jesus fish symbol). The New Testament has some strong astrological undertones in it, such as the place of Jesus' birth being Bethlehem. The literal translation of Bethlehem into English is "house of bread". The name was chosen as the place of Jesus' birth because the sun rises next to the Virgo constellation on December 25 (the "virgin birth"). The personification of the Virgo constellation is a virgin holding a sheath of wheat, so one name it is known by is the House of Bread. There are many more of these astrological metaphors (I guess you can call them that) in the New Testament.

Why did there Have to Be 12 disciples of Jesus?
There were many more than 12 or do you mean Apostles?

Why did there have to be 12 Tribes Of Israel?
13 Tribes, as Jacob adopted Joseph's two sons, Ephraim and Manasseh.

Why did there have to be 12 Constellation?
There are now 13, Ophiuchus (the serpent bearer), is now within the bounds of the zodiac.

When Judas died, He had to be replaced with another in order to bring that Number to 12.
He wasn't replaced.

There were in fact 13 tribes of Israel, as Joseph was divided into the two tribes of Ephraim and Manasseh. In Revelation 7: 5-8; the 144000 chosen ones are from twelve of the 13 tribes of Israel. 12,000 are chosen from each of those twelve tribes, of which the tribe of Dan is missing.

This was because Dan actually died childless, and the source of his tribe was his adopted daughter Hushim, who was the child born from his Mother Bilhah, who was raped by Reuben the first born son of Israel, and as the other 12 tribes were represented by the 12 disciples, Jesus was the representation of the tribe of Reubens first born child Hushim, who had married a man from the tribe of Benjamin by the name Shaharaim to who she bore two sons, Abitub, from who the tribe of Dan is counted, and Elpaal the ancestor of King Saul from the tribe of Benjamin.

The tribe of Benjamin had effectively been destroyed by the other 11 tribes of Israel, who butchered every man woman and child in the land of Benjamin, except for 600 fighting men from the tribe of Dan, who had been forced to live in the land of Benjamin their brother tribe, as they were unable to remove the original inhaitants in the portion of land that had been allocated to Dan. Benjamin was the tribe that was lost. The territory of Kerioth/Hazor, was given to the Pseudo tribe of Benjamin after the israelites were released from the Babylonian captivity, and the disciple that was bound to be lost was Judas Iscariot, and the name "Iscariot," means "Man of Kerioth." But who in this forum are really interested?

12 is just a good number for measuring, 1/2 of it is 6 , 1/3 of it is 4 and 1/4of it is 3

with 10 1/2 of it is 5 but you have to go into fractions for 1/3 or 1/4

I think this is why it is a prevalent number in the past.

Friend Flavius,
Why did there Have to Be 12 disciples of Jesus?

Why did there have to be 12 Tribes Of Israel?

Why did there have to be 12 tribes of Ishamel?

There are 4 directions of The Earth and to Each direction is Given 3 Names.

Each group of 3 point to 3 Constellations of the 12.

Why did there have to be 12 Constellation?

When Judas died, He had to be replaced with another in order to bring that Number to 12.

Why?

Why Must there be 12?

Find some interesting concepts of the number 12 in numerology:
12 = 11 + 1 Increasing its vibration level the crude innovator (11) becomes able to withstand the spiritual energy levels and thus turns his life from disharmonious (11) to harmonious (12).
12 = 6 X 2 The 12 signs of the Zodiac are divided into 6 pairs of opposing (2) signs.
12 = 2 X 6 The 12 signs of the Zodiac are divided into 2 groups of 6 signs (up-down representing spiritual-material or left-right representing masculine-feminine)
12 = 3 X 4 The 12 signs of the Zodiac are divided into 3 groups of 4 signs called quadruplicities (cardinal, fixed and mutable)
12 = 4 X 3 The 12 signs of the Zodiac are divided into 4 groups of 3 signs called elements (fire, earth, air and water)
12 = 7 + 5 Astrology (12) is spirituality (7) implemented into real life (5)
12 = 9 + 3 Music (12) is a harmonious (3) spirituality (9)

13 is a good number, as 7 is the central division of the 12, with 6 on either side, and 7 is one of the most important of numbers in scripture. Enoch the only exception of all mankind to have ascended to the ends of time and to be anointed with the sweet smelling ointment of God, which shone with the brilliance of the sun, was the seventh generation from God the Father of Adam, and Jesus was 70 generations from Enoch, See Luke 3: 23-38.

This makes Jesus the 11th of the seventh born sons of God, and as 10 is the completion of a cycle, 10+1 =11, is the beginning of the new cycle, which begins with the second Adam, "Jesus," who appeared to Saul on the road to Damascus in his new blinding body of Light, which is the inheritance of all those who connect themselves to the second Adam. For if there is a physical body, there is also a spiritual body, but the physical comes first, and as we have borne the image of the first Adam, so too shall we bare the image of the second Adam.

13 is much better than 12.

I think so too. Jacob/Israel had sired 13 children, one of which was his Daughter Dinah. Even though Dan was the fifth born son of Jacob, because his first and only true wife Leah, had given birth to six sons, they received the first six blessings and Dan was relegated to receive the seventh blessing from his father and also the seventh allotment of land in the promised kingdom.

Zebulun the sixth son of leah, was the twin brother to Dinah, who was born on the seventh day of the seventh month, and was considered the 7th born child of Israel, but daughters did not receive the blessing of the Father. She the 7th of Jacobs 13 children, divided the six sons of Leah, from the six sons of Zilpha, Bilhah, and Rachel.

The six hundred fighting men from the tribe of Dan, the tribe of the 7th blessing, who were the only survivors of the massacre of all the inhabitants in the Land of Benjamin, were given 400 virgins from the daughters of Dinah who had been raped by Shechem the son of Hamor when she was 12 years old. Just a little trivia I thought to throw in.

In hotels 14 is really 13,
and then it just makes people feel as if they're higher than they really are from there.

13 is a mind trip up the elevator.

My favorite shirt is my purple 'unlucky 13' shirt.
I've actually favored very well in it.
And not.
So I guess it's just my shirt....

I CERTAINLY won't be having 13 children though.
four is enough.
And I wouldn't want 13 followers.
followers tend to be annoying.
2 or 3 people i really like is good with me.
They can copy things about me if they like.
They wouldn't want to actually BE just like me though,
or I probably wouldn't like them to begin with.

They're free to like the number 12 OR the number 13
and I really wouldn't mind either way.

They should have used all prime numbers in the Christian bible, it would have made it much more interesting.

Instead of "666" being the mark of the beast, it should have been 661. That really would have started them talking.
