I can only accept being somebody if...

I still remember when this first came out.... well, sort of... it's a bit hazy... purplish too...

Seeing it played live when Bonham was still alive was... incredible... (It was in quadraphonic and the sound literally spiraled around the arena...)

I wish you could hear the device I designed and built in 1989. I called it Kinetic Audio. DSP chips had just hit escape velocity - Texas Instruments first released the 32010, then the 320C25, which I used in my first nontrivial digital project. In those days 20 MIPs was awesome. But it still had to be written in optimised assembler to run the main loop in 25 microseconds.

The device was designed to accept multiple inputs and dynamically pan them individually around a network of amp/speakers. I had 8 powered monitors, one in each corner of my lounge room, and I could program trajectories for each input. It sounded insane. And almost drove me insane, because I was self-teaching every aspect - machine code on the DSPs, complex logic boards to run the eight DACs, analog filters. Everything was new to me. I even worked out how to express the pivotal algorithm in calculus, which I never studied in school. And I built a custom joystick controller for it.

Then there was a recession, and I couldn't get anyone to finance it as a business proposition. It would have been the ultimate FX box for techno. Somebody actually stole the whole box and dice ! Boo hoo.
I may do an improved version. It would be so much easier now. One creditcard-sized microcontroller for under $100 would do it nowadays. But now I'm too busy inventing a new musical genre...I'll keep you posted...

But then who does not like own self?
Lots of people. That was the thought that led to this thread.
Being attached to your sense of self, or obsessed with yourself, is not the same as liking yourself.
Why are so many people seeking 'liberation' from self with 'spirituality', or drugs, or plain distraction, if they really like themselves ?

These are good questions that I will watch being answered while I enjoy.
