I don't believe America is a majority Christian nation

It has everything to do with what you said. First of all it's the Christian God that makes those demands. Second of all he says those demands are realistic through his strength. This has nothing to do with what straight people hate or don't hate or what demands they might make. Who cares what people think? If God is real people should care what he thinks, not the opinion of mortals.
But it isn't god waving around signs that say "God hates ****," it isn't god who harasses, beats, and kills homosexuals, it isn't god promoting destructive "therapies," and it isn't god doing the discrimination against homosexuals.

Now you've dug yourself into a hole. The Bible was written by mortals in the first place, mortals who do not agree on what this deity wants and it's only mortals telling us what he wants in the first place. It's (some) mortals saying that their god wants gays to be celibate or to try to change their orientation.

This really gets to the heart of the matter. I think there are people out there who would like to know Jesus but won't commit to him because they feel they are condemning themselves to a life of deprivation and pain. Jesus addresses this as well.

That is just a weird thing to believe in.

We have to be able to separate cultural Christians from those that actually believe in the teachings of Jesus. We can't do that by asking if people are Christian. The term "Christian" doesn't mean anything anymore.

Well, it's obvious what the word Christian means to you. "The people who agree with me about what I think is important". That seems to be a very common definition for many of the revealed religions.

I am not one to give a free pass based on a third hand claim of divinity...
