So we have an important pooja (prayer) thing coming up and we usually buy special clothes from Indian clothing shops in preparation.
Most shops are located on the other side of my city which is a decent drive from my house. Bout an hour or so. Very few if at all near my house.
Anyway, me mum asked me to take our elderly Aunty to one such shop. Except neither of us knew the exact address. But no matter I thought. If I can get us close to it, then she can guide me the rest of the way. So I picked her up, punched in the road near the shop we wanted on my phone’s GPS and away we went.
Unfortunately the route we took confused my Aunty somewhat as she didn’t fully remember the directions. We drove and drove and turned around and drove and drove. She told me to go home and stop by another shop she knew nearby. Went there only to find it closed.
All up it took us around 3 hours, and my poor Aunty is getting on in years, so it was probably very uncomfortable for her. I felt absolutely terrible.
So that’s my failure at trying to do a helpful act
Thank you for listening lol

Years ago, I had pinpointed that in three days it was going to be our anniversary... flowers.

Life set in.

On the fourth day I remember that the day before was our anniversary!

Not a good thing.

A few months later I saw a sign that said, "the best way to remember your anniversary is to forget one". I can attest that the statement is true! :D Decades later, I still remember my anniversary! :D

A long time ago I asked a girl out she was an aromantic asexual and I didn't know I was as well at the time... The way i asked her out was and i quote: Hey Im bored wanna date? Her response? I ain't attracted to anyone but I could always do worse so why not?

So where does the failure come in? Welllll.... I gave her food she was allergic to. So....yikes. Luckily she didnt eat it and lived and we dated for a few months before i looked at her and said these exact words: "I am bored. Want to go back to being just friends?" Her: Yeah sure makes no difference to me.

But man serving food she was allergic to! Should've asked for allergies first.

I am happy to listen to you. I’m sorry about the lack of success in that situation. Did you and your Aunty talk much during the drive?

I was on vacation last week, and was using the time to work on my boat renovation project, in the front yard. And it was going well. I'd gotten the front and one side of the new wheelhouse on it and was hoping to get the rest up before the end of the day. Suddenly some kid wanders up to the boat, maybe 15 years old, and starts talking to me in some language I don't understand. He conveys to me that he is lost. So I ask him where he's trying to get to and he gives me an address but I can't understand the street. Sounds like he's saying "elephant". But by the number he gave he was quite a long way from home.

I explained to him that he could catch a bus across the road that would take him in the direction of the number he gave but he indicated that he had no money. (He was not asking for any.) Then he pulled out a smart phone and seemed to be asking if I had one, which I don't. And I can see that his has a dead battery. I told him I had an iPad but it won't allow him to call anyone. But he seemed pleased, so I climbed down off the boat and we went into the garage and I handed him the iPad, but he didn't seem to be able to make it do whatever he was trying to do, and I think he was asking if I had a charger. So I dug up a charger and he plugged his phone in and punched in a bunch of numbers. But instead of calling anyone, he used a translating program to write a message saying that he was lost, and trying to get home. He was writing in Arabic, and said he was from Syria. Seemed like a nice kid, although how he managed to get himself lost in my suburb and in such a predicament was a mystery. But then 15 year olds are not known for making good decisions.

Anyway, I finally agreed to drive him home, although I still did not know where home was. From what I could gather, "elephant" was 11th street, and he knew the number was 317. So off we went. But as I drove, it sounded more like he was trying to say something about the 700 block of 11th street. But when we got there it was clearly not his home, as it was not even residential. And I couldn't make heads or tails out of anything he was trying to say. So I drove toward the 300 numbers and he was still clearly lost. And I was getting a bit frustrated. I wanted to get back to work, and I had no idea where this kid was trying to get to. So I drove to a police station down town and started to pull over, and he seemed to be indicating that he knew where he was. So I told him to tell me which way to go and I started driving again.

But unfortunately, following his directions, we just drove around in a big circle. But then finally, when I was about at the end of my patience, he seemed to know where he was. So I followed his directions a little further, and we ended up at his home ... 317 E 11th street. It had not occurred to me that he meant the east side of town, as we had come from far out on the west side. So a very relieved 15 year old finally got back home, and I went back to work on the boat after an hour's very strange encounter.

My bet is that his parents will never know about the dangerous predicament their son had gotten himself into. But then we were all 15, once. I have no idea, but in my mind I imagine he was chasing after some girl and ended up lost in a far-flung suburb with a dead phone and no money. Kids. :)

If it makes you feel any better, my friend just recently did something similar. Only he celebrated a few days too late.
Last I heard, he’s still in the doghouse!

Maybe you shouldn't look at it as a failure so much as a really thorough trial run.

My latest fail:

I was working on my bike and without thinking I put my metal, pointy-edged multi-tool in the same pocket with my phone.

Now I need a new phone. :p

I had a failure today. I couldn't get a kiddo at the daycare to stay on their cot at bedtime let alone sleep. She kept calling me a ***** (this is the second day she's called me that...she did it on three separate occasions today ive been trying to get her to stop but it ain't working. In addition to that she has countless times today told me and i quote "Shut up"). In order to get her to stay quiet cuz she kept trying to make noise and run around the room when she was supposed to be sleeping I had her colouring on some paper in the corner. Eventually the other staff member got her to get on her cot and sleep but nothing i tried would get her to go near that cot let alone sleep on it. I picked her up and placed on it a few times telling her to go to sleep tried to place her on her stomach so i could pat her back (for some reason patting the kids backs make them sleepy)and she kept saying No sitting up and running away from the cot. It was very frustrating. I even tried explaining to her how grumpy shell be later if she didnt go to sleep she didnt seem to care. So i just gave up on that and had her colour.
