I have a question.

My friend, Spencer, is a heavy Christian. He's 17, and he said that's he's never masturbated. (Don't ask why he told me, I don't know.) I asked him why and he said that he thinks its a sin.
Its a FAQ, but is it a sin?

Your friend, Spencer, is a liar. God made his arm exactly that long for a reason.

Masturbation is a sin? If you don't do it, your brain will do it to you while you sleep. It's a necessity. When I was sixteen, I spent half my time looking for somewhere I could be alone for five minutes.

Nope. It's a really poor interpretation of Onan's crime coupled with Jesus's "lusting in your heart" line.

Also, he's probably lying, or busy.

Unlike others, I believe there is a pretty decent chance Spencer isn't lying. There are several cultures where masturbation isn't as common as in America. But I also don't think its a sin, but then again my world view doesn't include sin. So, as someone else said, if he thinks it is, then it is, as the entire idea is subjective.

Hmm, studies suggest that 90% of the guys have masterbated sometime in their lives. I think it's kinda hard not to do it, unless your friend has a really good sense of control or too busy. Not to judge your friend but I think he's lying or just busy to do it. He maybe not doing "it" now or for some time, but in the past, I think he might have done it at least for once.

I never masturbated. I've never looked at a woman with lust, either. Now if you'll excuse me, I've got to get back to reading my bible and cleaning my machine gun.

To answer some questions.
No, Spencer is not a Lutheran, he's just a Christian.
SteveGrayFTW, he knew I was doing this. He's not embarrassed(I hope not) because he doesn't know any of you and probably never will.
He doesn't lie, so, no he really hasn't masturbated.
I think he's too busy, Lawrence.
Old Scratch, what do you mean by "Spencer a wikedly great pick-up line has!"?|

Spencer asks: Is there any proof that it is not considered adultery or fornication?

That is actually a difficult question since the Bible really doesn't talk about masturbation at all. So one would probably have to answer that no, there is no proof that Biblically, it wouldn't be considered adultery or fornication as such just simply is not talked about.

However, when we look at what the Bible says about adultery or fornication, masturbation really doesn't fit. Adultery requires human contact. There must be some physical contact, and it has to be with someone besides your spouse. Masturbation simply doesn't fit.

Even with fornication, it involves two people. So really masturbation would not fall under that either.

So when we look at what the Bible says, masturbation just doesn't fall under any of that.

Nah. I'm sure he does, and has.

My husband said the same thing. Makes you wonder why any God would bother trying to make an act indulged in by pretty much every man on the planet, to such an extent that a claim not to indulge is immediately considered a lie, a "sin". Another example of flawed "design" perhaps?

I'm sure Jesus himself skinned a few back during his stint in the corporeal realm.

Everybody does it. Jesus included, only he didn't fantsize about hot chicks. He was thinking about chocolate. Can you imagine it? Ten billion years of chocolate covered everything and then, bam, not a stick to be found. He must have been in agony.

Not trying to be mean or judgmental here, but do you have any indicators that "he's not lying"? It doesn't mean that if someone is your friend, then that person is a hundred percent honest to you in everything that he or she says (besides, you don't know the rationale on why he told you that he's not masturbating.). Not all the things that you are being told is absolutely true. And being a "christian" does not equate being "good" or "perfect", "not lying" and so.

I was told it was a sin when I was little. Fortunately, I understood what "sin" is. Now that the topic has come up, I'm off for some.....thinking.
