I have another question about Islam!

Assalamu Alaikum brothers and sisters!

In Islam, Jesus in an important person. He is a messenger and the messiah (correct me if I'm wrong). However he isn't God like in Christian thought.

But Jews, to this day, say that he didn't fulfil the requirements to be a messiah. So is Jesus, similar to Christian beliefs, to fulfil these requirements at another point according to Islam? Or is there another explanation to why Jesus is the messiah and why Jews rejected him?

Sorry if this was answered before and thank you for answers! :)

Wa'alikom esalam wa rahmatAllah wa barakatuhu :)

In Islam we don't really care about all the prophecies in the Bible, to say the truth.
Maybe those prophecies will happen in his second coming.

In the Quran it says that they rejected him because of their pride, and also because they didn't wanted to accept whatever he can bring to them.

Well it's an interesting perspective but if someone tries to find out which religion to follow it's a good detail.

Say for a moment that Jews are right, Jesus is not the Messiah, then wouldn't that negate Christianity and Islam or do you still see it as an important message regardless? A lot of Islam is linked to the previous books, the Qur'an has stories of the previous prophets and Jesus included. There's a chapter on Mary... So isn't it important?

In the Quran it says that they rejected him because of their pride, and also because they didn't wanted to accept whatever he can bring to them.

Okay interesting, I'll need to have a look! :D Thank you both for answers and I know it can be difficult... I'm the type who digs a LOT! Questioning everything all the time.

And the reason for asking is because I'm re-evaluating my reasons to reject Islam... So you're both helping a lot!

I don't say it's not important, but muslims believe that the Quran is the Word of God.
So if God says that Jesus is the Messiah, we accept him as the Messiah.

Yes it's important, but we trust the Qu'ran 100%.

I grew up as a muslim, so for me the Bible is less important. And if it contradict Islam, we put Islam above it.
I've read the Bible and it's not the same that when i read the Quran, there's some things i don't believe at. So, maybe they have prophecies who are wrong.

Why Christians themselves believe in Jesus if their Bible includes the Jewish Scriptures ? If they're supposed to believe in the same prophecies ?

In this forum there's some muslims converted, so maybe if they were from one of those religions before they can tell you what they think about the prophecies they used to believe to and why they still decided to believe in the Quran.

You're welcome, it's normal to ask questions :)

as Pastek said that our main source is quran and we trust it 100% so if the bible contradicts the quran we will follow the quran, surly this answer can't answer your question as you are a seeker not a Muslim

but i'll try to do my best as a bible reader, there's a lot of prophecies in the old testament about a coming prophet in the future, Jews claimed that this prophecies are related to one person who's the messiah but actually if you return to the biblical texts itself you won't find the word messiah is mentioned in that prophecies so who said that these prophecies should be for the messiah? it's Jews not the bible itself

but actually if you gather these prophecies you find some of them are matched with what Jesus did and the remaining are matched with Mohamed peace upon all, and so i say that not all of these prophecies for the messiah as both Jews and christians understood but some of them are for the messiah while the others are for the last prophet so Allah told the jews about the two coming great messengers after Moses to follow them when they come and appear

Salaam illykitty,

Been some time since my last post so without further ado...

Regarding your question i recently heard an excellent lecture from a reverted Muslim (Yusha Evans) on this topic he said that Jesus a.s. is the Messiah as a given title (if you remember the Angel Gabriel told Mary this thus God/Allah decreed he was the Messiah) so yes we believe he is the Messiah now to evaluate if he has met the criteria of the Jews is a non-issue Jesus a.s. isn't the first prophet they've rejected/killed.

"[Pickthal 2:87] And verily We gave unto Moses the Scripture and We caused a train of messengers to follow after him, and We gave unto Jesus, son of Mary, clear proofs (of Allah's sovereignty), and We supported him with the Holy spirit. Is it ever so, that, when there cometh unto you a messenger (from Allah) with that which ye yourselves desire not, ye grow arrogant, and some ye disbelieve and some ye slay?

[Pickthal 3:45] (And remember) when the angels said: O Mary! Lo! Allah giveth thee glad tidings of a word from him, whose name is the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, illustrious in the world and the Hereafter, and one of those brought near (unto Allah)."

This still leaves a question of what has/will Jesus a.s. save as he is the saviour (messiah) the answer to that may be in the bible...

Jesus a.s. was sent to and only to the house of Israel to save them, maybe he'll save them in his second coming (we believe he wasn't crucified.)

"[Pickthal 5:72] They surely disbelieve who say: Lo! Allah is the Messiah, son of Mary. The Messiah (himself) said: O Children of Israel, worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord. Lo! whoso ascribeth partners unto Allah, for him Allah hath forbidden paradise. His abode is the Fire. For evil-doers there will be no helpers."

PS. a.s. means alayhi as-salām or peace be upon him.
