To be a Conservative/Reform Jew and a Theravada Buddhist.

BTW, I made this thread so you all could know what my current is and will possibly be :D
Well I can only give you an advice as a Jewish man, quite a few American Jews have adopted Buddhism and have become successful leaders in the American Buddhist administration. however, from the experience of many of us, Jewish tradition is not meant to be mixed with eastern philosophies, Judaism is the practical, we do not seek enlightenment, Jewish heritage, in its oldest form is about a priesthood class or religious authority as it were, soldiers and military, and politicians, and today obviously a well established scientific and medical community, philosophies from the far east will only make it nearly impossible for you to stick to the Jewish tradition you want to preserve. I would advice you however, as you are a resident of the UK, to keep update with the Muslims in your society, because despite our differences with them, what they practice is closest to our tradition.

Ummm I am not from the UK and there isn't a large concentration of Muslims in my area :p

sorry I just noticed that, for some reason I always thought you live in the UK. anyway, my advice still stands, to keep update with current events about the Muslims in your society.

Hm, sounds like you're really not sure what you believe in. My advice would be to stick with Judaism, if only in name (to an extent) for the time being, while dabbling around in other faiths. Does something about Buddhism sound interesting? Read up all you can, practice a little, meet other Buddhists... whatever you can. If you are able to stick with it for at least a few months, I'd say, and really do feel that it's the path for you, then identify with it.

Or you could just say you're a seeker or something like that. :) But it's nice to feel that you have something to "fall back" on, as it were — that you, at one point, believed in the Jewish faith and if nothing else comes close, you can go back to it.

I might be rambling a tad bit, but I hope it's somewhat useful.

You could also create your own religion. Something about worshipping ravens.... ;)
