If you feel your rights were violated and someone committed an actionable offense, you need to talk to a real lawyer and not the internet. If you have the funds to hire one, that is best. If not, maybe your community has legal aid. Time is of the essence as memories fade and evidence can disappear. Only you can decide how serious this is.

No ethical lawyer would do so. It would be like a doctor trying to decide what was wrong with you based on what you said online.

See if there is Legal Aid (which gives legal help for free or very low fees) or a lawyer who does what's called pro bono work near where you live. Pro bono means the lawyer works for you for no fee. Most law firms take some cases like that.

I highly recommend you take the advice of an Internet forum poster who directs you to an aquaintance on YouTube who is a lawyer. It seems the most reasonable approach.

Frito: Yah I know this place pretty good, I went to law school here.
Pvt. Joe Bowers: In Costco?
Frito: Yah I couldn't believe it myself, luckily my dad was an alumnus and pulled some strings.

Of course, there's always the outside possibility that s/he's the wrong kind of lawyer and will simply refer you to Facebook. But, heck, it's a start.

How would you know that a "lawyer acquaintance" of someone online is a legitimate lawyer, especially if the person agrees not to bill you for the advice?

Asking a lawyer to give free advice online is tantamount to asking for legal advice when you're introduced to a lawyer at a party. That's just not ethical for the lawyer to do so, nor is it right for someone to expect a lawyer to give free advice in such a casual situation.

Would you ask a doctor online to diagnose you? Same thing.

Keep in mind that you may not have to pay or may pay an amount you agree you can afford if you go to Legal Aid which IS legitimate.

There are forums where you can ask lawyers (supposedly) for off the books legal advice like you can find doctors (supposedly) who will give you advice but all of them will repeatedly tell you that even though they have experience and are qualified nothing they say is actually real advice (they will tell you it is there personal opinion)

You can google it.

With my experience at least with legal employment help forums they will usually tell you the employer is always in the right no matter what evidence you offer so I don't put much stock in it. Like everyone else has said go to legal aid if you are really that tight for cash they can help you for free depending on what the situation is.
