Hinduism being essentially a license to discover, expound and celebrate truth innovatively and inclusively, attempts to pigeon-hole its proponents in any dogmatic way can be misleading. Best to join them in celebrations - accepting that each celebration is unique and no particular celebration precludes our right to celebrate in any other way.

This blog has been closed. There are two Vishwananda threads on this forum:

Swami Vishwananda and Bhakti Marga?

which turned into a discussion of gurus in general and

Hindus: Swami Vishwananda criticism and controversy?

which is controversial and in the debate section.

I appreciate the “Live and let live” approach in that statement.

We have discussed in the other two threads. He is fake. He is an actor.
Swami Vishwananda and Bhakti Marga?
Yeah .. this man interesting because he has gotten his philosophy from a babaji that Paramahansa Yogananda met, which is why his name is mentioned in his biography.

.. they suddenly begin holding hands and swaying back and forth ..
There are thousands of people (including Yogananda) who claim to have gotten their philosophy from this immortal Babaji (Mahavatara Babaji). The Babaji story itself is fake.

That is a common shaman trick (swaying back and forth) and has been with us humans for thousands of years in every culture (the Hodjas of Turkey or the Ojhas of India). There are female shamans also. Every village in India (some 5,00,000) has a hereditary back and forth swayer.

I met Viswananda once. His guru was "Haidakhan Babaji" as far as I have heard. So NOT the Mahavatara Babaji Yogananda talks about.
I also met a few people who met this "Haidakhan Baba" personally somewhere in the 1970th I think.

But I have never met "Haidakhan Babaji" nor "Mahavatara Babaji" personally.

Are you sure the Yogananda Mahavatara Babaji story is fake? I did like the story. But I have to admit it was a bit much to just easy believe.

I like the story of Alif Lailah. I have never heard anything bad about 'Hedakhan Babaji'. Hedakhan is a village in Uttarkhand where he established an ashram. One of my collegues was his follower. But that does not make Vishwananda into something special. It is common among fake Indian gurus to claim discipleship of a well-known imaginary (Mahavatara Babaji) or existing baba. If Yogananda mentions Mahavatara Babaji, then he was a lier. I am basically a no non-sense person.

You mention "Alif Lailah" [Alif Laila is an Indian television series based on the One Thousand and One Nights, also known as the Arabian Nights].

Good to hear you did not hear anything bad about "Haidakhan Babaji". I heard very disturbing stories about "Haidakhan Babaji", even first hand stories. They were so bad that I pushed them away for 25 years (suppressed). I also prefer fairytales ("Alif Lailah") much better than harsh reality. Luckily I could only find one negative internet story confirming what I heard 25 years ago about "Haidakhan Babaji" . If it were true there should be much more on the internet I think.

So I think the 4 persons telling me at that time must have been mentally disturbed telling such stories. I do have an email, so I will check again now after 25 years. He is a doctor nowadays, so he should be okay now. I do hope that your positive version is true. I hate all these negative Guru/Church stories nowadays in the news. Too difficult to tell whether it's fake or real nowadays.

On Vishwananda I read some disturbing stories on the internet also. 20 years ago when I met Vishwananda he seemed nice to me. I don't understand that so many Gurus and Priests mess up on sex nowadays. But maybe/hopefully this about Vishwananda is fake news. I was allowed to ask a question, and he even invited me to have a private session with him. But I was dedicated to stick to my Guru only, so I declined His offer.

Here is some extra info on Vishwananda. In this post I see a few posters who only came to RF to talk negative about Vishwananda. And one poster only came to talk the negative away into positive. I think we should be very aware that such people walk into RF. So personally I do not know what to believe anymore when reading things on internet, or even when people talk to me. People so easily exaggerate or even tell plain lies.

In above post some negative poster claims that Vishwananda is gay and that in 2008 there were mostly male devotees around him. I visited around 2008 and I can assure you that this is false. I was amazed about all the female beauties being around Vishwananda

I felt like being in Heaven. Not just one angel, there were female angels all over the place. Great place to practice celibacy. At least some challenge;) to see/check if you are really free from desires.

The basic thing is that I do not need any guru. I have found what I wanted to find in a radical atheistic advaita. I wish other people also make their own search by reading the scriptures rather than depending on 'babajis', many of whom are later found to be shady characters.
