I really hate to bring this up...

I know what you mean, it's true you can't be 100% certain. Sometimes it will also say 'enzymes', or just 'rennet', which could be microbial, especially if it's a mass produced brand. There is a list on a website, something like joy of cheese that lists veg. friendly cheeses. Land O' Lakes is one of them.

Oh no, I've been buying cheese with enzymes hoping it's not animal rennet :(

Don't worry Maya, check the wrapper next time but most cheese does not contain animal.

A long time ago, cheesemakers were stuck with rennet in long term contracts with suppliers. Now the microbial enzyme producers can do it cheaper, so most have switched over, not because of any care or concern for vegetarians, but because its cheaper.

I don't wear leather. If you hunt around, denim, and industrial hemp belts are available, but you need to do some looking and asking. My last belt was from a skateboarding accessory store cause its cool, I guess. The one exception I made was work boots - steel toed ones, but I'm too old for that now, so its good.

I think the Hindu beef to no beef ratio is around 60 - 40, maybe a bit higher.

Exactly. I didn't mean to scare Maya or anyone else. Actually I think it's reassuring to know how much cheaper and more readily available microbial enzymes are. Animal rennet is from a veal calf. While veal is readily available in the US and Canada, there's not enough anymore to make it worthwhile to use for the amounts of cheese produced nowadays.

The real hidden things we tend to overlook are gelatin and hydrolyzed collagen. Custard-style yogurts contain gelatin, for example. Pudding, yes good ol' chocolate pudding, contains gelatin.

No worries about scaring me.
But if you shop at Whole Foods or at Trader Joe's it tells you what kind of rennet it is. It says animal rennet if it is, or microbial rennet.
Or it says enzymes, I assumed enzymes where microbial.
Most of the fanzier cheeses have animal rennet, but there are a couple of good Brie and Blue without it.

Yes, the fancy 'artisan' cheeses will probably have animal rennet. Part of the label to check to determine if it has animal rennet is the price. There is a Trader Joe's is not far from me; Whole Foods is further away, but I may take a trip there one day.

When u say do not advocate ... That means its strictly forbidden ? Also as I understand the reason for not eating meat is to avoid anger, lust , greed
Etc...so can I assume that all vegetarians are free from it and are
closer to god then non vegetarians .?

There were some studies on American violent prisoners in the 1970s. It did show some drop in aggressive behavior before studies on prisoners were out lawed. I have always seen a vegetarianism as a disapline to an end. It just takes the edge off so one can control the anger better.
