I really wish I believed

I don't think I believe in God anymore, but I really wish I could. I particularly wish I could believe in an afterlife. I find death extremely scary now that I don't :(

If you have begun to deny God then as a result you must begin to fear death because without God and without guidance you do not know where life is taking you, you have no steering mechanism. Go back to your roots and;

ask Abraham, does God exist?
ask Moses, Does God exist?
ask Joseph, Does God exist?
ask Ezekiel does God exist?
ask Isaiah, does God exist
you could even ask Jesus, Does God exist? and they would all answer a solid yes.

There are billions of people who have walked this earth which would testify of the power of the Jewish God. Who else would preserve Israel and bring them back to the promised land as promised in scripture? Who else would restore Israel back to life after being just like the Valley of Dry bones? Who else would cause you to breathe and your blood to pump, and allow your mouth to utter words? Would you say God? or would you give the glory to something else?

Maybe some kind of problem has come your way that causes you to doubt. But the reason you fear death is because somewhere deep inside you know you're wrong for doubting God. You know it! And there's nothing keeping you from beleiving in God but yourself. Not any man, not any spirit, but only YOU. So since it's just you, you have the ability to believe whatever you wish. There's nothing that is able to keep you from beleiving in God.

If you have any questions to ask I am here to answer. May Adonai GOD bless you and keep you and sustain you, O sister.

I used to envy people their religious beliefs for this very reason, but ultimately, what you have to realize is that when the end comes, you won't be aware of it. I still get scared from time to time - I can't help that, and I'm not going to pretend that I don't - but no amount of fear has ever been able to produce any legitimate belief in a god. Your best bet is to focus on the here and now, and not spend your life living in fear of its end - you wouldn't want to miss it.

1co 15:53 For this body which comes to destruction will be made free from the power of death, and the man who is under the power of death will put on eternal life.

1co 15:54 But when this has taken place, then that which was said in the Writings will come true, Death is overcome by life.

1co 15:55 O death, where is your power? O death, where are your pains?

1co 15:56 The pain of death is sin; and the power of sin is the law:

1co 15:57 But praise be to God who gives us strength to overcome through our Lord Jesus Christ.

1co 15:58 For this cause, my dear brothers, be strong in purpose and unmoved, ever giving yourselves to the work of the Lord, because you are certain that your work is not without effect in the Lord.

If you force faith upon yourself, you can make yourself believe in anything.

Sorry. You haven't proven God to exist. "Denying" God is not necessary to be an Atheist/Agnostic.

Fear of death is probably one of the main reasons for having a religion.
Nah; there are actual good reasons. :)

I think if I was to "have a religion," it would be to be socially bonding with like-minded people who share a similar understanding of reality and my place in the universe.

But maybe that's just me.

You don't need a religion for that. Or at least, I don't.

Lacking Common Sense
You may find this to be interesting:

Many religious people make the mistake of assuming that atheism is a one-way ticket to hell. The fact is that God cares very little about a person's religion or non-religion as revealed by some of the NDE accounts profiled on this website. The only thing that really matters is the spiritual condition of the heart.

My experience has been that when an atheist tells me they don't believe in God, they really mean they don't believe in the Christian God or any God from any religion. From the NDE perspective, I can agree with this. Many atheists reject a spirit world for one reason or another and they generally do so because they have a strict scientific perspective of reality.

Many scientific atheists devote their entire life studying the laws of nature and, to them, this may be their form of divine devotion whether they know it or not. In fact, because of this, I submit to you that a large percentage of such scientists are closer to spirituality than many religionists.

Scripture is what you need. It's medicine for the soul.

I offered it, take it if you want, or refuse it and die a slow spiritual death.

Don't presume to tell me what I need. I try to repect your beliefs, you could show the same courtesy.

If you really wanted to do so, you would.

Isa 8:18-20
(18) Behold, I and the children whom the LORD hath given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from the LORD of hosts, which dwelleth in mount Zion.
(19) And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead?
(20) To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

The word Matrix is in Job :angel2: so what is death? Some called that sleeping?
God is the Lord of the Living or Lord of Hosts, meaning all life is God, doesn’t say much for finding him in dead trees though….

Wow! What a neat experience it was reading through this thread. It contains so much truth! I've learned a lot from reading it.

Religions today are packed full of human error and interpretation. As proof of this, look at all the religions and how much they contradict each other. But most of these contradictions are on the edges. Problems arise when everything within a single religion is accepted on blind faith.

I think it is common for people to reject the simple truths within a religion because of the various man-made ornamentations within it. I think that it is a good thing when people reach a point where they desire the real truth so much that they begin to question everything they have been taught. The imortant thing is to never give up the search for truth. I think that most people will be able to find it right where they started, hidden all along.

Read this thread! Can you see it? People from all different starting points and religious afiliation have sought out true knowledge. On the outside we may all have different labels, but inside, we all have found the same basic, simple truths. The truth is there, inside of us... Wow... Beautiful.

Someone said it better than I ever could:

He who hath ears to hear, let him hear...
And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free!

Popeyesays,

re: "If you really wanted to do so, you would."

Are you implying that you think that a person has the ability to consciously CHOOSE to believe that someone or something does or doesn’t exist or that a certain proposition is or isn’t true?
