That contemporary "paganism" amounts to a bunch of people consciously making stuff up? Seems sad to me. But maybe in the world of the New Age that's standard and even laudable. It's a radically modern way of approaching religion, I suppose. People in ancient times would find it bizarre.

I have wanted to create my own religion for some time now. I have a variety of reasons for wanting to do this, one being I enjoy religious rituals and temples but have numerous problems with religion. Discrimination, general nonsense being taken too literally, and rules I personally find ridiculous. I think my biggest issue happens to be how seriously people take religion in general.

So I wanted to make my own religion. Simple rules with a few deities.
A creator deity that doesn't really care about anything we say or do, just creates billions of universes out of something that might be called habit.

A deity represented by the sun who favors justice, warriors, advancement in science and social progress. A deity who although not all powerful is interested in humanity and the various other species of animals throughout all of existence that can be helped. A deity that frowns upon things like bigotry. A deity that would rather we strive to improve ourselves , become stronger , more intelligent more compassionate. Not one that places rules we can not follow in place, not a deity that places guilt on us for being human. A defender, and one whose followers are also defenders, sunlit knights.This deity also has no set gender and can appear as male, female, intersex, gender-less . Whatever is appropriate for the time. Shannel, lord of sunlight, illuminated , plenty of names to go around as well.

Another deity who represents something much more emotional, a connection to other humans in a more romantic sense as well as in the form of a family. A deity who appreciates poetry, art and the finer details of artistic existence. The intricacy of male, female, all genders and feelings. A deity that strives to help it's followers understand rather than to be understood. Who strive to be peacemakers rather than obtain peace themselves. To console rather than to be consoled. To bring an appreciation for creation in both it's beauty and it's deadlier aspects. A deity who represents the sea as well as the moon. Cause you always gotta have a sun and a moon god.

Meditation and self improvement would be more central than simple faith in deities. You would strive to accept your faults and improve those faults that you can, aid people wherever you find them. This is of course not saying you need religion to be able to do those things, a religious man or woman as well as a non religious person can and do help those around them. However if you are like me and miss religion being a part of your life , without wanting the silly rules , then maybe this is something you might consider. Of course it would be open to everyone, atheist, theist, anyone.

Not to mention the saints, people like Issac Newton, Martin Luther King Jr. ect. Saints would be people who brought new advancements and learning, or improved / sought to improve peoples conditions. People to look to for an example that humanity can , has, and will do something right. These aren't people who are flawless or so moral they are deities but people that we can aspire to be like.

Also played around with the idea of knighthood being central. Not really like historical knights ( who aren't exactly examples you might want to look up to) but the fictional personification of old world chivalry, where men , women and any who embrace the fold strive to be the best people they can be. An illumination in dark times. Of course this also does not mean they are better than other people for their goal is betterment of all and not just something to fuel their ego.

I also find it useful to use mythology to convey meaning , so writing a "holy writ" is also underway.
So tell me what you think. This is very basic and doesn't go into the finer details of the theology but it's a good start I think.

Make sure to write a book about it and put it in the self help line. Then make a blog of your various adventures in your religion on your own site that allows for donations to be given. From there have a phone line where you or telephone operators that you hire can give answers to various life questions based upon your new religion. Get some paraphernalia going. Make a little gift shop on your site where you can buy t-shirts, coffee mugs ect. If you have a religious symbol make keycahins and necklaces out of it to sell as well. If you don't have a religious symbol then get one.

You'll be rich before you know it.

Not exactly how I would characterize contemporary Paganism, but okay.

So... holding things to be sacred or of value and pursuing truths or telling stories that enrich the meaningfulness of our lives and inform our manner of living is utter nonsense? Not exactly how I would see things, but okay. If you meant this thread to be a joke, there's a different subforum for that, just so you know.

It was a solitary retreat, but the cows were good company, very placid and wise. They would stick their heads through the caravan door for a scratch and a chat.

You must be able to turn that same criticism to your own faith.

I discredit earthly religions every single one of them including Buddhism and Hinduism

Have you studied the origins of the parent religion to Islam, Judaism?
You are aware that many of the claims from the Jewish texts aren't supported historically. And since the Jewish writings are the basis of the Islamic texts, what that also implies about the origins of Islam?

"True" messages of those religions were revelations by God. Offcourse Judaism and Christianity have been modified throughout the years by the believers of those faiths and islam told us already about that

Religions shouldn't be forcibly created- they should be organic and come naturally, not because someone wants to make their own.

What does this mean? So religions grow on trees?

How do you think all religions came to be? Because someone or somebodies wanted to create that religion. I love how all the theists are defending their own established religions and mocking a new potential theist.

OH NO! We can't have one more religion based on a single individual's beliefs.
