I don't think there's any faith in the global market place of ideas that can't be made to look ridiculous. ;-)
Atleast the scriptures tries to be about love for god and not to be horrid war explanation or death to unbelievers, its focus is on the love of god which sheds much better lights on scriptures from the bible too, which feels much more like real love.
So whatever he did, doesn't change what practice or teachings the book of mormon tells about. Its like if i were a good teacher, but if i were a horrible person otherwise then thats bad, but the teachings are still good and legit for people who wants that kind of love in their life.
Take Gandhi for example. He talked about peace and is known as peaceful, but at home he was abusive towards his wife. So there you have it.

I agree completely. They all look ridiculous when you apply objective standards.
That is why I don't think any of them are more than fiction.
But I must say, LDS is easier to make look ridiculous than most religions. But I also know that their culture is much more moral than most USonian.
Credit were it is due. I know a bunch of Mormons and they're as obnoxed by Warren Jeff's shenanigans as I am. But if I do business with an overtly religious person, I would pick a Mormon hands down over any other religious person. They say what they mean and mean what they say, in my experience.

Whether they'd have a moral issue with it or not, no business could sustain itself with me as its only customer.
IMO, every single person who was ever proclaimed a "prophet of God" was also a flawed human being.
