If a creator exists, why worship it?

If the human race created a new sentient species in the future (doesn't really matter how in this scenario) would it make sense for us to have this new species worship us? I personally think that would be a bit odd and blatantly narcissistic.

So if humanity was created by a "god" would it want our worship? Is this "god" if it exists even worthy of worship since it doesn't interfere in our daily lives for good or ill?

Perhaps God knows that the benefits of worship are experienced by the worshiper, not the God. It is for our benefit not His.

Absent a creator God, ask yourself why so many diverse societies in every part of the world and at all times have created Gods to worship. Is it realistic to believe that there are no benefits from such an enduring activity?

A "god" that endorses worship because it benefits us would mean this "god" is concerned with our welfare. I don't think that type of "god" exists, there is zero evidence for this "god's" existence.

So...?
You don't need proof to worship, You just need faith.

Plenty of evidence that worshipping benefits people though. Which is the answer to your question...

It makes sense to worship anything and everything that is an expression of you or your culture's values. I think we'd be jumping the starting line quite a bit by assuming that a new species engineered by humans would value us as worthy of deep respect and celebration.

I personally think that would be a bit odd and blatantly narcissistic.

Why would it be narcissistic for another species to honor something it values? Would't a better case for that be if this new species began to worship itself, as many humans do? Is such autotheism necessarily a bad thing?

My theology does not have such a creator god, but even if it did, that would be besides the point. You worship things because you value them, not because that thing wants you to. Or at least that's how it should work, IMHO.

That's up to the personal values of each individual. As far as I'm aware, only deists believe in this sort of god-concept. Although I am not a deist, there is no thing that I believe is unworthy of worship. Others are welcome to different conclusions based on their own values.

The sun exists, and it was once worshiped, after all it gave life to the planet, but we no longer worship the sun, we now understand all about the sun and how it gives life to our planet, back then we were ignorant of the sun, and because of our ignorance we worshiped it. In my thinking its the same with our god's that we worship, we are ignorant of a lot of things and we project that onto whatever god we prefer, but its through ignorance that we keep worshiping that god.

The sun is still worshiped. It is not the case that those who worship the sun do (or did) so out of ignorance. To worship something - to deem it of worth - is an expression of values, not of knowledge. Though I wager outlooks like this successfully feed into the agenda of making all polytheistic, nature-based religions seem like options of the stupid, ignorant, and backwards. Thanks. I feel so very loved.

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
Still wonder why theistic people think a God needs or requires worship in the first place.

In my non-dual (God and creation are not-two) philosophy, worship is not really the right concept. If all is One; who is worshipping who? The goal is really Self-Realization.

That said, many are aided by the worship of a deity. It is a stage before the final realization dawns that God and all consciousness is One. The worship is a step on the ladder before the top.

Yes that is how you look at it now, that is in hindsight, but many did worship the sun as a god, they weren't stupid back then, for they never knew the whole story or truth of the matter. But we now know that the sun is just a big ball of whatever burning in the sky, now with the god that so many are worshipping now is in a way the same, and of course we can never know what this god is, there is no proof at all, so, worshipping will continue until the truth becomes known, just as the truth of the sun became known.

I understand, emotionally, the joy connected with worshipping god. I was a fervent Christian true believer once. After being in the military and being exposed to different cultures and beliefs the logical side of my brain couldn't ignore questions that were raised by this exposure to other beliefs. Over time I lost my faith and became agnostic. After realizing my prior beliefs were false I approach claims based on faith warily and analyze them as did my prior beliefs. IMO basing your beliefs and worldview on faith is dangerous.

I agree.

It would be narcissistic to expect to be worshipped.

When worship is misplaced great harm can result, so should the practice of worshipping things/people be encouraged? IMO, no.

People are free to believe what they want. As long as those beliefs don't harm me or those I care about I really don't care.

I don't have/want faith and I'm addressing this subject using logic and reasoned arguments.

We all worship something, And what we worship shapes who we are, whether we realize it or not.

And so I worship my God so that I do not worship something that will lead me down a bad path, Or change who I am in a way I do not want.

God/s worthiness or lack thereof is not the point of worship.

It's kind of strange to speculate, but I think if bring anything to sentience (besides a computer) it probably be an existing species. That's just an odd hunch. But anyway, no, they shouldn't worship us. But at the same time what are we creating? We aren't immortal untouchable gods that something else couldn't harm us, in which case, we'd have to trust whatever we are creating, even if it is far more intelligent than us, not to enslave us and reign over the world. Anyway, it seems your question is hard to compute.

God doesn't need us to worship him, God is Self Sufficient. However it is us who require God and so we draw closer to him by worshiping him. This helps us in following the right path and makes it easier for us.

That is briefly speaking.
