If God exists and God desires that one should live according to the "holy book", God could have embedded this knowledge in each and everyone of us so that we all would be born with this inherent knowledge, or God could come in front of us and say "you should live in such a way" - but why didn't he do this?
This question was asked in one of my previous post to which it was answered -
But God did this to Prophet Mohammed? strange, isn't it? Especially to someone whose morals are par below present day standards.
If one has a longing for something (wish to - read a news paper/drink coffee early in the morning) and if one happened to do that continuously for 30 or so days, then he/she has formed a new habit - and habits are very compulsive in nature.
Religious rituals (daily prayers etc) when done continuously for 30 days or so easily becomes a habit, and this makes it very hard to break free from this. So regular religious rituals are much more effective "compulsion agent" than God coming to us and giving us directions.
Moreover, what if God reveals something (orders to stop following this particular religion or alter some text of Koran) to someone - how many of you can accept this? Most probably one (believers) would say he is insane and that it would be Satan who appeared in front of him. If sharia law is to be executed - give him a 1000 lashes and kill him.
So why did you believe the story (about prophet Mohammed and Gabriel) to be truthful in the first place?

- "well, then everything would be reveled which shouldn't be" ;
- "then there would be too much compulsion to follow this religion or book" .
