If science is so great why hasn't it solved all of humanitys problems ?

What has that got to do with scientists or the topic.
Come on, keep on topic
Concentrate, instead of insulting.
All I can think of is this is some sort of self justification because ad hominem.

I'm excused because intelligent people aren't perfect or something like that.

You are talking about applied science.
You seem to want to blame scientists for their discoveries. Yes, there are scientists that sell their soul to dubious research projects, but that is the same in all professions, including preachers.
It was a scientist who invented computers, made the motor car, got us to the moon, but also invented the atomic bomb and algorithms that swing elections.
Assuming that is true about "applied science," seems the money spent on rockets going to the moon is a waste when in fact there is so much help to be done on the earth. In this case, it's sad not funny or cute. More than sad, but I leave the thought process up to you and others.

You have complaints about the general human condition.
And that science hasn't cured its ills.
Some thoughts.....
- Science is a lengthy never ending process that wanders
greatly as it tends towards describing reality.
- Science is practiced by imperfect humans.
- Science is hard. It requires much study. Errors abound.
- Science isn't about determining what's moral / ethical.
- Science yields useful results, eg, vaccines, electronics.
- There's no better alternative to science for what it does.
There certainly are problems that humanity might be able to solve if in fact it really cared about other people and what affects lives. Take care.

Getting to the moon in terms of basic physics was figured out by Newton nearly 500 years ago, but making useful satellites like our modern GPS and weather satellites came out of research from NASA, Likewise computer reliability technology and other electronics that we use daily and numerous other technological advances sponsored by research into how to get people to the moon that we take for granted today came out of the space program. Just because you can't define for yourself where some advance in technology comes from doesn't mean spending money on "blue sky research" does not benefit you.

All it means is that you are ignorantly transactional and do not understand how human beings progress.

Lots and lots of money spent getting to the moon. Go figure why that money can't be used in helping people. What a shame.

I'm not supposed to laugh out loud although I did after reading your response the second time and thinking about it. Not sure what it meant but if I have it right, it's kind of cute. :)

Alas, caring tends to be tribal.
Just reading news about social security income in the United States. Predictions are that the money will run out in a decade. Yet many, many people rely upon this income. oh well...what a miserable mess. There is an old song that the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

Letting SS run out would be political suicide.
Even reducing payment amounts would too.
So something else will happen, eg, general
tax increase, payroll tax increase, tax increase
on benefits, raising the eligibility ages.

Well, that's the situation now -- the rich get richer and I am pretty sure that they manage to tuck much of their money away so the government doesn't get it. But the point is that is the situation in general since -- a long time ago.

Oh, and replying to the first post & question, the reason science can't solve mankind's problems is because it cannot. :)

During the the 1960's Paul Ehrlich predicted that people would outproduce our food supply with dire consequences. Along comes another scientist named Norman Borlaug who developed solutions to the problem.

Ehrlich, a scientist, entomologist in fact, saw the problem. Borlaug, another scientist, found the solutions.

I met Borlaug about 20 years ago. Nice fellow. In his lifetime, he may have saved over a billion lives.

Science can be used to solve some of our problems. Perhaps many of them. Science can be used to come up with solutions. But as many have already noted, it can't be used to make people listen to reason and act responsibly.

Just reading that billions are spent for the U.S. space agency. Billions, not 1 or 2 billion. Many billions. Figuring hey, what's out there? :)

You don't speak to the dead, do you? Because I sure wonder what you think about those whose children have been maimed and murdered by bombs in recent wars created by "scientists."

The rich getting richer isn't the problem.
It's government spending more than it takes in.
Politicians are rewarded by the voters for this.
So it's a tough nut to crack.

Money spent not on war or oppression, but
to expand knowledge about life, the universe,
& everything is money well spent. Especially
when it's such a tiny portion of the budget.
