I guess it would depend on the audience. If Trump said it, then it would probably go down on a long list of other things he said deemed shocking and offensive. Trump seems to do it so much that he's got the media playing whack-a-mole.

They didn't spare him, since the comment was made about how easy it is to sexually assault women when you have power. If there were any justice in the world that would have taken him out of the nomination then and there. But it didn't. Neither did it when he mocked disabled people or made a number of other sexist and racist comments. Let alone the miles of greed and corruption.
That's why mainstream American media wouldn't have cared as much as you think. Because our society is already in the cesspit where worse is acceptable to worse people.
