If Trump wins, will there be elections in four years or will he be a fascist dictator?

If Trump wins this election (which would no doubt come as a terrible surprise to many), what do you think will happen in four years? Trump is often compared to Hitler and Mussolini and described as a fascist. If that's true, does that mean there will not be a presidential election in four years and Trump will be the first dictator of the "United States"? Or, do you think an election will occur as it has every four years and someone else will become president?

1. Trump will not have a third term.
Given his age and his mental decline, it is highly unlikely that he will still be President at the end of the term.
2. There will be elections in 2028.
The question is if there will be fair elections. My guess is that, whoever becomes dictator after Trump, will still hold mock elections to keep the veneer of democracy.

I think Trump already stated this will be his last run , so we only have four years of Trump and depending on how well they do, I would say Vance has a very bright future ahead of him if and when this country improves under his watch.

Trump doesn't oversee elections directly; the states do.

Expect to see elections, but with a DoJ that doesn't act on electoral law violations that benefit Trump or the Republicans, since its higher levels have been purged and replaced with Trump loyalists.

I predict that if Trump wins the election, he will not survive his term. He will die of apparently natural causes early on. Or maybe even of unnatural causes. And Vance will be a better president than people expect. Not necessarily a good president. But better than expected. He will not be Trump 2.0.

You know, I wish Vance was the guy who wrote the book instead of trying his lot to MAGA.

I think there will be mid-term elections in 2026 and a presidential election in 2028, along with the standard schedule of state and local elections.

The only thing that could really change that is if the Constitution itself is changed radically - or completely rewritten. If a Constitutional Convention is held and enough state legislatures support it, then it's within the realm of possibility. I seriously doubt such a thing could ever come to pass, though. It's not as easy as it was with Hitler when the Enabling Act was passed, which made him dictator.

The US constitution wouldn't need to be amended to eliminate voting for president or senators. The constitution as it exists today allows states to choose EC delegates or US senators as they see fit.

I'm not sure what state constitution changes might be needed to eliminate voting for president or senators, though.

Vance is an amoral climber. He would not be a good president. But he will not be Trump 2.0, and the U.S. has had many amoral climber presidents in the past (Nixon comes to mind right off).

Russia has presidential elections every 6 years. Vladimir Putin got re-elected with 88% of the vote last March. I'm sure Trump, if elected next week, and if he's still alive in 4 years time, would be happy to follow a similar path.

Can't be true. Why not? A true Hitler would not have wasted his "one shot being President" to do his "Hitler-thing". Especially being already old 8 years ago, you don't waste 4 years.
Or, do you think an election will occur as it has every four years and someone else will become president?
IF Trump is President, there will be NO dictatorship. IF democrats win, I am not so sure

It seems likely to devolve into a scrum of opposing self-styled 'great leaders' and their coteries of sycophants and hangers on. For Trump to leave the picture he'll either have to lose it so badly his support evaporates, or for someone to provide some fantasy option, whereby he can bow out while maintaining semi-deity status.

VP JD Vance will be well qualified to take over. He will have ripened with age, to be a genuine Statesman and a good President. Trump will be able to retire, seeing the country under good hands, but he may still be a part time consultant; Good Will Ambassador.

Vance has humble roots, is super smart, and rose up the ranks and epitomizes the American dream, where anyone with a good heart, smarts and hard work can do anything, all the way to becoming President. He will be a good poster child for the American dream still being alive in America.

The DNC is too clannish, where their power structure decides the President, to keep power close; Anoint Harris. There the American dream is lock out by unqualified people who are treacherous; added a new glass ceiling. The DNC had at least 12 better people than Harris, who wanted to run for President, but the DNC chose the person who was least self sufficient, and thereby easiest to control.

Trump picked the best since he wants the glass ceiling to be shattered and not reinforced by insecurity and paranoia due less qualifications.

Hitler also didn't take over Germany in 4 years. And he planned to become a dictator from the beginning. Trump may have not. He is forced to - if he doesn't want to go to prison.

Expect to see anyone who opposes Trump or the Republican party to be arrested, deported, or simply disappear long before 2028. Expect news agencies that run unflattering stories to lose their licenses or otherwise be driven out of business. Expect any government employee who is not 100% loyal to Trump or the Republican party to be fired, or worse. Expect protesters shot in the streets. Expect mass deportations, concentration camps. Expect every detail in project 2025 to be implemented and more.

I don't know if Trump himself will run in 2028, I doubt it. He is 78 and I don't think he is well. I don't know if he will be able to serve 4 years much less run again. But whoever runs in 2028 they will set things up so that elections in 2028 will be like the elections they have in Russia.

Trump has state he will become "dictator on day 1" if elected and also told a conservative Christian group that when elected that they wouldn't have to vote ever again.

Sure. That’s what he said, but my question is a little different. What do you think will actually happen?
