If you could make something illegal, what would it be?

I'm surprised by the amount of people that would make alcohol illegal. Curious.

Although not everyone abuses alcohol, one has to wonder why drink it when there's many alternatives. So many people get addicted (or abuse it on weekend binge drinking, big thing here in the UK) and then not only do they destroy themselves but also others, either family and friends... Or they have impaired judgement, drive and kill people.

Wearing your pants halfway down your a-s should be punishable by a $10000 fine and/or one year in prison.

Perhaps we should require a license to drink?

*Shrugs* I honestly don't know what would be best... It's complicated. It would be impossible in real world to ban but I wish there was a way it wouldn't be abused so much.

But since this was a thread where I could put a ban hammer in my own fictional ideal world, I went for it. :D

- Political donations.
- Abusing the name "news" for any media outlet that is actually just passing on propaganda.
- bearing children without certification (based on history of violence, starvation level poverty, basic intelligence, abuse of drugs, etc..etc...)
- gun ownership without certification (violence, poor impulse control, psychiatric history, abuse of drugs, basic intelligence, etc...etc...)
and on, and on......

Political donations, perhaps, or maybe bombs or war materiel.
How about banks larger than state institutions, income > 1M/year or ownership of more than 2 media outlets?
^Something along these lines.

I'm agreement with limits on campaign donations, company mergers, and media consolidation.

A license would be abused, as was Prohibition back in the day.

Despite having chosen "alcohol" myself, I don't think law has the power to change those things.

What we need is social awareness, boycott, ridicule and rejection. And above all, the courage to deal with problems instead of avoiding them with drugs.

Drugs are a serious problem for much the same reasons why suicide and abuse are as well.

But law is simply not effective enough. At least by itself. It won't make much of a dent as long as drugging oneself remains socially acceptable.
