Then it would be a more realistic outcome of insulting someone, I suppose.

If that were the case, then yeah it would be a realistic outcome. Let's say it is... perhaps it is, that has no relation to the extreme story of the boys eaten alive by bears. It's not the actual outcome of mockery, and so nothing is learned from this metaphor. It'd be different if they were caught and were punished by guilt and apologize.
