I'm a hypocrite because I consume animal products

I'm a hypocrite:

I know that eating meat and animal products is morally wrong

But I do it anyway even though it would be possible for me not to

I know it's wrong but do it anyway

That's the definition of a sin

I am weak-willed

I value my food more than I do the welfare of my fellow sentient beings

I was once vegan for two weeks

But I was on as night out and had a kebab having had plenty of beer

I then relapsed and went back to eating meat

I cannot imagine ever being a vegan

Even though it is the right thing to do

For me the whole meat thing is so ingrained

HOWEVER: I am going to try to cut back on eating meat with a view to eventually transitioning to being mostly vegetarian

Also, I have stopped using cow milk, I now only ever buy Soya milk

Maybe there's nothing morally wrong with eating meat. Maybe only with the way some farmers treat their livestock. Perhaps you can buy from only trusted sources.

Remember that meat is essential for proper brain health.

Meat, Cooked Foods Needed for Early Human Brain

Don't let people BS you into thinking it isn't.

If you do go that route, take the proper supplements to accommodate the missing vitamins and nutrients.

I think that there are ethical ways to eat and unethical ways.

Zooming out, we ALL get eaten in the end, one way or another!

So, if an animal lives a good, natural life, is raised in a way that's sustainable to the environment, and is slaughtered ethically, then I think it's ethical to eat some meat.

I'm "mostly" a vegetarian, but I believe that eating a small amount of meat provides nutritional values that are hard or impossible to get otherwise. For example, I eat about 8 ounces of bison / month.

BUT, I think eating "factory farm" meat IS unethical. Those sentient beings live horrible lives of unending torture.

There's nothing morally wrong with eating meat. It's good for you. I'd say it's more immoral to be a soy boy.

No.

If you went around condemning others for not being vegan that would make you a hypocrite.

Failing to live up to your ideals just makes you human.

Anyone who manages to live up to their own standards 100% of the time has probably set their standards too low.

Don’t judge yourself any harsher than you would anyone else.

Nothing morally wrong with eating meat. Ethical, free range meat that is.

I'm the same as Eddi. I was vegetarian (not vegan) for many years, and now I eat meat and feel guilty about it. It all came to be too difficult when sharing my life with non veg people. If I ever find myself living alone again I'll probably revert.

Not morally wrong? We are killing sentient creatures against their will, no matter how well they are looked after before that. If cannibalism is wrong, so is eating cows. It's easy to observe that the whole of nature survives by eating other species, but we have a choice.

So make your choice, I've made mine.

Cannibalism is more a cultural thing than morally wrong.

BTW, my eldest daughter is vegetarian she manages fine in a house hull of meat eaters.

Your current label seems to be flexitarian . All lives saved is good, don't aim to be "perfect" or you may well then feel you have failed. You are already reducing abuse and killing (of cows and male calves) by having plant-based milk.

Dead cows cannot produce milk. Being raised on a dairy farm i can tell you this as a fact ;-)

In Abrahamic religions, god gave us animals to eat after the fall. Eastern religions, however, stress vegetarianism. I think you're good, although for health reasons, it is better not to eat red meat. I was vegan for 6 months, but I try to eat free range eggs, or eggs from friends' pet chickens. Bees make honey anyway, so I don't see that we are forcing them to do that. Drinking milk from cows who have lost their calves, is not bad I guess, as long as the milk supply is allowed to dry on its own. It's complicated.

I also said abuse. And the cows are dead sooner than they would naturally be.

"While the natural lifespan of many cows can reach 15 or even 20 years of age, the vast majority of dairy cows do not live beyond 4.5 to 6 years. This is typically the age when a female cow's milk production drops, resulting in farms sending her to slaughter."

"The average productive lifespan is approximately 3 to 4 years in countries with high-producing dairy cows. This is much shorter than the natural life expectancy of dairy cattle. Dairy farmers continue to cull cows primarily for reasons related to poor health, failure to conceive or conformation problems prior to culling."
