Thats right, im coming out...

of Christianity that is, if you notice my religion in my description has changed to ...

Xtian.

due to being paired with certain unmentionable Christians, i will no longer accept the name of Christian, i am now an Xtian--free from the bonds of Christianity. I just cant handle being one of "those Christians" anymore.

the legalism, the hatred (im in the south mind you), the hypocrisy, the preachers on TV, and the judgemental---and dont forget the ignorance. Christian carries all those labels for me now

also, lets not forget that the majority of fundamentalist Christians consider me not to be one anyway...because i do not feel the bible is innerant.

yeah, i can understand that - those things played a big part in my own walking away from Christianity - though i ventured out completely into another religion.

are you still apart of a congregation or church?

Thats too bad friend. It seems many are "spiritually homeless" because of the juridical types in many religions. I dearly love the teaching of Christ, and still try to understand the mystery of his sacrifice. I know my ideas about that would send the legalist fundamental types for a loop. It is allright to study, pray and meditate on your own, but sometimes it gets lonely and I long for a community that is merely dedicated to showing the love and devotion they have for their religion without all the dogmatic hyperbole. I looked into the study of Catholicism but because I have had several bad marriages in my past I don't make the cut. Better to go out and murder a few people than get married and then divorced apparently.
Be of good cheer though because there are many of us out there!

Peace
Mark

They get THAT word too???

That's no fair.

Can I still use the word "faith" to describe parts of my belief, or is that copyrighted too?

that is the one thing im holding on to, i am seeing tons of people take the same road, and we still love Christ, we are just disgusted by the "church" as it is and cant stand for it anymore. I know im not alone, and im glad in that, but for people around here, this is my one way ticket to hell---and that is so scary to me.

i had a big "cry" with the wife the other night about it, she is going through it too, just not as deeply or severly as i. she is afraid , i am afraid...its hard to let go of some doctrines that have kept u "out of hell" for so long, for fear that you were right when your faith was much simpler.

Congrats on your liberation! May your spirit be free to soar to the heavens… What direction are you heading, if any, with your new found wisdom?

Hi Rev,

Don't worry about hell, it's not too bad if you don't mind the smell, and all the lousy housing developments, and the slums, and...um....oh wait, never mind, that was New Jersey...

if i may ask, what specific aspects and associations are you wanting to walk away from?

It would have been easier on him if you asked what he wasn't wanting away from him. His next post could be a book...lol..

well, the direction i am going is just learning more, as much as i can ,and debunking non-thinking religion. religion without thought isnt faith, it is ignorance---

im almost going in a gnostic direction, but i dont want that label either

in the parable of the mustard seed, faith was the smallest part---the seed must be watered with Facts, and in the soil of Wisdom or it will not grow!

I wonder why this doesn't happen to the same degree among Muslims?

I have many disagreements with my fellow Muslims, even among my own specific people. I don't celebrate Muhammed's birthday, many Bosniaks do. I don't believe women aren't allowed at mosque on Kurban Bajram, most Bosniaks do.

And the differences vary depending on which particular group of Muslims we're talking about... but the fractures don't seem to manifest themselves to the same degree among us? I would never even think of saying I wasn't Muslim, or I was kind of Muslim, because my beliefs differ from others who hold the same religious banner.
