I'm out of my box!

I've been stuck in a very fundamental, biblical inerrancy, right wing religious box (and it wasn't a bad thing to me at the time, still believe that it was good for me much of the time) and now I'm suddenly seeing things differently. All of the sudden. Now, God is a concept altogether different than the one portrayed in the bible. Not that you can't find him there, but he is so much bigger than that to me now, so much more. If I don't take the bible literally, it opens up a whole new realm of possibilities about God. Life is fascinating!

Anyone else ever experienced this?

Yes, of course... I went through a similar situation on my spiritual journey. Life truely is fascinating! And so is God!

Good luck on your spiritual journey, outofthebox!

YUP!! I have. Wavying hands wildly in the air. I call it a spiritual crises or it's a time one may reach in they're life where certain beliefs need to be reexamined and some tossed out. I'd hazard a guess, but did something happen to cause to you to look beyond the box?

Welcome to the soul searching and good luck on the journey.

BTW: Welcome to RF.

Actually going through something similar in my life right now. It is one of the most amazing things to ever happen to me and I am loving every minute of it. It is confusing at times but it is wonderful none the less.:woohoo:

I am glad for Outofthebox's joy, but this happiness is tempered by the knowledge that one has turned away from the truth.

I understand quite well what he ment. When you look beyond the boundries of ones religion, one often has a tendency to walk away or backslide or even change religions...depending on the view and one's future actions and the viewer doing the viewing. It seams clear to me that the OP statement reguarding
"God is a concept altogether different than the one portrayed in the bible"
is a statement that rubs Mr. Emu wrong reguarding his religious views.

If I am wrong, please let me stand corrected.

Isabella.

The freedom to find your own path and to grow spiritually could never temper happiness. He will find his own truth just like you and I have.

His own path? There is only ONE. The idea that we can as fallen sinful people can meet find our own way to a God is the very problem.

His own truth? what does that mean?
Is truth whatever we decide it is? If there is no real objective Truth then there is no truth at all. Do we create God or Does God Create us? If i decide that god is a rock in my backyard does that make it true, no - if you would say yes then God to you is nothing more then yours and somone elses imagination.

On the contrary, the truth is what sets us free of old religious dogmas.

God is a concept altogether different than the one portrayed in the bible. Not that you can't find him there, but he is so much bigger than that to me now, so much more.
The early Christians portrayed God to us through the bible. But their perception of God gives me the image of an angry parent who is looking for any excuse to punish their child. This is not what God is all about, these are misconceptions of our forefathers that has been passed down from generation to generation via the bible.

I do not believe it is wrong to say that God can be found in the Bible, but the Christians can not fully comprehend God, any more than any other religion can fully comprehend God. Why is it so hard to believe that God is too big for any one religion? To truly know Him, you must seek Him EVERYWHERE.

There is ONE path. ONE river...with many tributaries that flow into it...each taking it's own curves, bends, and flows...yet all culmanate at the same delta and release to the same body of water.

No one knows the TRUTH. We can only guess and hope we guess right. NO ONE has all the answers...we are but mere humans...how can we dare to ASSUME we KNOW what a deity wants??? With so many different religions, faiths, beliefs, and differing holy scriptures in the world how can ANYONE say what is RIGHT and TRUE?

In your opinion there is only one, which I respect, but in case you havn't noticed, there are more than one view of religious beliefs here.

Yes. Did you decide that Christianity was the correct path for you, or did someone force you to believe what you believe? I am guessing that you decided that was the right path all on your own. In that case, do you talk to rocks?
