I'm pretty sure there's no god now

In this way craftier and quicker crocodiles survive to pass on their genes and the more evasive zebras are left to pass on their genes. A win for both species' evolution.

Normally, I just consider myself non-religious, and my stance on there being a god is the same as the likes of the Tooth Fairy, leprechauns, ghosts etc... There's a lack of evidence, therefore, I simply have a lack of belief. But now after watching this video, I'm thinking to myself "Nope! No way there can be a god. He's just not there!" because this is just effed up! My stance on god goes from simply being a lack of belief, to pretty much disbelief!

The video is raw footage of crocodiles attacking a zebra. Now we all know predators constantly kill prey in nature, and that in it of it self puts the notion of a benevolent god in question. But this video is so much worse than that! The crocodiles tear it's stomach out while it's still alive! And it walks around for a few moments while it's intestines are hanging out!

Now I already know gory kills like this happen in nature. But actually seeing it is a whole different thing! As much as I like watching nature videos and learning about the wild, I find this video unbearable! And even knowing in advance that the Universe and nature is harsh and very indifferent, I still can barely watch this!

Edit: When I'm mentioning god in this post, by that, I mean a benevolent, omnipotent and omniscient god.

WARNING! GRAPHIC VIDEO!

To the Abrahamic theists out there, in your heart of hearts! Why would a god allow stuff like this to happen?! Consider that harshness like this in the wild happens daily! It's a horrible way to die, and it happens daily!
The nature indicates the attributes of God. Just because God belongs to the inconvenient attributes it doesn't mean He doesn't exist.

There is a literal myriad of reasons not to believe in any god, @AndromedaRXJ

You just stumbled over one that works particularly well for you.

One should not treat those matters as if they were significantly meaningful or objective. They are anything but. You might as well open a thread about how you have just decided that you should never wear orange, for all the rigor that is necessary in analyzing the matter.

For me "Where was God during the Holocaust?" is a more pertinent question.

Well usually a theist's response to something like this is "humans have free will" or "it's our responsibility" etc...

But seeing an animal die a gruesome way due to predation, speaks of how harsh nature is at a fundimental level. As if it's pretty much necessary. So it raises the question as to why a god would make such harshness and suffering so fundimental.

Hmm... Keep in mind, what constitutes as "good" and "evil" are very much constructs of the human mind. Hell, sometimes we can't even agree what IS good or evil between each other as a species (cultures and ideologies definitely play a part here).

That doesn't mean that our concepts of good and evil are falsehoods, however... They absolutely are crucial to being human, to our survival as a species, and to how we interact with and shape the world around us. Putting all of existence under a microscope of our personal bias of good and evil is dishonest, though, IMO.

We exist as a tiny thread in the vast tapestry of the cosmos; the cosmos doesn't exist purely for our sake. At least, that's how I see things. =)

I don't think I ever mentioned the words "good" and "evil" in my first post. I'm not concerning myself with those concepts. But the zebra suffered horribly before dying. So my question is, why is this suffering so fundimental to nature if god is suppose to be so benevolent and all-powerful?

Sure, nature can be very cruel, and one wonders why a "loving" God would design or set up things in this way.

There were so many stupids like you, there are many at present and available in the future. No wonder.
We should not be calling each other names.

Posters here are sometimes cruel to each other in the name of honesty.
But there are always better ways to be honest.

Andromeda,

When I see nature in action I sometimes see evil at work, although I shouldn't. Things like what happened to this zebra go on every day as a matter of survival in the wild.

I definitely believe in evil because we see so much of it around us. I don't often see the good.

I think this is how I'm programmed. Both are out there, but I'm strongly prejudiced to see the bad in everything.

If I believe in evil it must follow that there is good. It's the order of the universe that there are two sides to everything.

Does this imply a higher power? I guess that's up to the individual to decide. We each view the world differently.

For me, there is something out there. I've seen its opposite, evil, on a daily basis.

I know what you mean, but it's all relative ..
Who suffers more? An oppressed human being or an animal who dies a natural gruesome death?

I would say the human, as the suffering can be for years, whereas the animal suffers for probably less than a day .. perhaps less than an hour. Almighty God is responsible for consciousness.
