Impersonating Police Officers

I thought your post was excellent, but I've played this game before. Facts that contradict the narrative these types of people WANT to believe get ignored, and usually the person pointing them out gets attacked.

Thank you for the heads-up. :)

OK. So they don’t look exactly like NYCP cars, but not far off the mark, except for the markings....MCP. vs. NYCP
Here is an article that is much better written (and from a far less biased source than the initial report in this thread).
article

The article discusses the fact that the MCP cars are purposefully designed to look like the NYCP cars, with the blessing of the NYCP who were knowledgable of the group’s formation, and who work with the MCP.

The unarmed civilian patrol will offer translation services — its members are fluent in any of seven languages — explain cultural nuances, report suspicious activity, respond to traffic accidents and even help in searches for the missing. The patrol has the support of Brooklyn’s borough president, Eric L. Adams, and Assistant Chief Brian J. Conroy, the commanding officer of Patrol Borough Brooklyn South.”

The few main take-aways I got from this article is that the patrols haven’t started yet, and that the community hasn’t been informed well enouh yet that the MCP will be present. And that the formation of the MCP was primarily a reaction to the vitriol and hatred and threats the Muslim community has been receiving.

Unlike the Shomrim, which patrols in vehicles and on foot, the Muslim patrol will operate only from patrol cars, Mr. Rabah said.

We know our place: We are not cops,” he said. “We are simply patrollers for the community that also serve as the eyes and ears for the N.Y.P.D.””

In NYC there are Muslims driving around in cars identical to Police Officers cars.
There's a law that prohibits impersonating Police Officers.

What about all the millions of people who go

Whatabout one of them spreading malicious rumors?

I stand corrected. The pictures provided are hard to deny.

Technically it may be against the law. I don't know.

A poor choice by the MCP. They should have expected backlash and avoided it in the name of keeping the peace.

Whether or not a person should be afraid of a police officer ( or someone who looks like a police officer ) who also happens to appear to be Muslim is irrelevant in my opinion.

Thank you Daemon Sophic.

I wonder how many private security company vehicles have a superficial resemblance to police vehicles. I think it is pretty common.

What? Me worry?
Not sure how the law reads in NY, but in VA the only problem I can see would be with the almost identical emblem on the front quarter panel of the car and on their shirts. In VA security companies of any type cannot have an emblem resembling the Seal Of Virginia emblem that's used with all state sanctioned law enforcement agencies. NY is, I'm sure, more regulated when it comes to security agencies (even citizen patrol groups) as to markings and reach.

It is odd, but the New York City regulations must actually lean the opposite way from those in Virginia, because the vehicle markings for this new Muslim patrol as well as the pre-existing Shomrim Jewish Patrol and the Brooklyn Asian Safety Patrol all clearly use the same pattern based directly uppon the New York City Police Department. o_O And all with police and city officials blessings.

Looked some of this up and I figured you were right. The PD had to be aware of the vehicles. Also, this is a little surprising because none of these citizen patrol groups have arrest-or even detainment-power above the average citizen.

An obvious attempt to capitalize on the authority of the NYPD, and time for

  • Imprisonment up to five years (sometimes more)
  • Fines (usually $1000 or more)
  • Probation
  • Permanent criminal record
  • And repainting the fleet
.

In what way is a car that does not say "police" anywhere on it, does not have a light bar, and has standard license plates "impersonating" the police?

It's very common for private security companies to make their patrol cars visually similar to police cars.

Well, at least that's a real car and not a virtual mockup, but judging by the license plate numbers in those photos, they're all the same car. @Faithofchristian 's claim of cars, plural, seems dubious.

Not to start a debate, but from a good distance I believe the small "police" on some of the cars could easily go unnoticed.

And obviously the MCP cars are deliberately painted to resemble NYC patrol cars as much as possible. So one just has ask to himself, "Why?" I think the answer is obvious.

Well if I was you, I wouldn't go about pretending, that's simple enough

Kinda like the way the trump -claim of being the hardest workin' potus is dubious?
