For instance, we all say things we don't mean in the midst of certain emotion. It could have been a big smirk on his face and obvious sarcasm like the kid who got six months in jail for posting on facebook that he'd shoot up kindergarten and eat their still -beating hearts over a video game.

Putin is a Trump fan, so he also may have seen some of the things Trump blurts out to get the media panties in a bundle (and how surprisingly it makes his ratings rise ), and thought he'd have some similar fun being "politically -incorrect"

He wouldn't want to either, because many Russians are Muslims including in the military.

He wouldn't try it... That doesn't mean he didn't say it.... He may have seen how some of Trump's offensive remarks made his ratings rize.

Being the Trump fan Putin is, he decided to make a crazy comment as offensive to politically correct people like Obama , Hillary (whom he passionately hates )Merkel, and the EU as possible.

It can be very fun to shock people with your words if you are one of the most powerful people in the world.

(I'd argue Putin is more powerful than the President of the United States, because he has more authority to do what he pleases and get away with it. )

If he said it, it was probably with a smirk though.

Well, the Muslim world couldn't even defeat a tiny country not much bigger than Connecticut (Israel ) so I doubt they would succeed in conquering Russia, which defeated Hitler, Napoleon, and the Kaiser Wilhelm .

oh, they can... It's just they don't want to put that much into it...the west is aware that many of those conflicts aren't much of our business, so the wars fought there are limited, and there is a lot of protesting back home.

America defeated the Taliban in Afghanistan and Sadaams military fairly quickly and easily (in the sense that they were kicked out of every strategic place they occupied ), but the cost of occupying those nations wasn't something America was willing to follow through with.

Neither should we have been there in the first place, but I was glad to see the Northern alliance get control of Afghanistan.

I think you realize that not only the US fighting them, but several countries combined, but still Taliban is fighting
and the IS is fighting, so if that can be done fast, then what waiting for?
