In flux again (a bit long)

Just asking, but are you fluent in Tamil? How did you learn it? I'm trying to learn it too as our sampradayas are both rooted in Tamil Nadu.
I know 5 words, maybe. Two of our monks speak Tamil fluently. It's not necessary, in my opinion. I tried once, and the 3 year old kids in the class outperformed me so badly I was so embarrassed I gave up.

I think what Chakra said was pretty much on the mark - that anything you hear from us is just going to confuse you more. I would be thrilled to see your posts in the Hinduism DIR again of course, but I think you need to see how the ocean sways you. Try to take some the pressure off yourself. Remember that this is not a race. =)

I know the feeling of 'being in flux'. You constantly think about what you believe and do the best you can to try and make it fit to your view/religion/philosophy. However that was one time. I have no urge to change sampradayas.

I understand the feelings. I know I'm late to the party, but better late than never.

I find it hard even for myself. Somehow I always look back to Islam or Sikhism, but I know they really aren't for me in the long run. It bothers me.

Hopefully Hinduism is your final pitstop, and if not, all the better haha, happy travels ;)

If there's one thing I learned during my foray into Heathenry, it's a concept called UPG, unverified personal gnosis. The tl;dr explanation of it is "what does your gut and heart tell you about something, and how do you interpret and understand it?". Using UPG I can't tell you I'm right and you're wrong, and I can't tell you why I feel what I feel.

It's along the lines of the quote from the Buddha in the Kalama Sutta: "Now, Kalamas, don’t go by reports, by legends, by traditions, by scripture [my note: scripture is important, but not to follow blindly or literally], by logical conjecture, by inference, by analogies, by agreement through pondering views, by probability, or by the thought, ‘This contemplative is our teacher.’ When you know for yourselves that, ‘These qualities are skillful; these qualities are blameless; these qualities are praised by the wise; these qualities, when adopted & carried out, lead to welfare & to happiness’ — then you should enter & remain in them."

I have no urge to change sampradayas.

I'm not even considering the idea of a label or what sampradaya I belong to. I offer, and pray to Lord Shiva as much and as easily as I do to Lord Vishnu, and to Devi in her forms. That is, I'll pray to the form or aspect of God that is appropriate to the situation. If someone is sick, I'll invoke Lord Dhanvantari. I think it was Lord Hanuman who helped me raise a section of my fence during Hurricane Sandy, while my arm was in a sling from major shoulder surgery. So I call on him for strength. If I need courage, maybe Maa Durga. I'm an equal opportunity polytheist through and through. :)

I hope you thought about Hanuman's burly muscles ;)

I had the feeling that he was behind me pushing. One of the reasons I feel close to him is indeed for his strength. I need to pester him to help me (he won't do it for me, I just need a little nudge) get back into the gym.

I didn't stay tonight for the Hanuman Chalisa chanting @ 6:30, as I used to do. I probably will next Tuesday. Of course, I can chant it (read, that is) on my own. ;)
