In your religion.What do you believe a poltergeist is?In my religion it can be spirit of a dead person.Or a demon.

A lost soul. One that can't accept their fate. Possibly they have what is called a slaver (worm). Slavers are like parasites. Being like parasites they have no sentience. They just attack the living or the dead. Once they have a host they then can direct the host how they need. They need life force as sustenance so they drain their host. Until that is done, which can take years, they effect others....to find more hosts.
Oftentimes, it's just angry and confused dead. Who need to know that it's good to move on.
We believe demons are more subtle and noble.
