Does anyone believe there should be any sort of ceremony or rites when a person chooses to walk the left hand path? If so, why do you find it necessary and what would these rites include?

I did. I don't think it's necessary, but some people put in a dedication ceremony to show to themselves that they are truly dedicated.

For me personally, Rites of Passage are important Magically. When I first became a Satanist I performed a ritual invocation to Satan/Lucifer and during the rite I pledged my allegiance to Him. When I finally Became a Setian on the night when I first invoked the Name of Set and experienced for the first time the actual presence of the Prince of Darkness, I swore my Eternal Oath of allegiance to the Majesty of Set. That was about 21 years ago.

I find such Rites of Passage important because you are acknowledging, and by the rite, strengthening the Bond between yourSelf and the Dark Lord. These Workings could also be seen as Rites of Re-Birth, of being Re-Born unto the Path of Eternal Darkness, of exploring, uncoverning, and striving to actualize the limitless potential hidden deep within your Being - also known as Initiation.

I think perpetual/constant/daily initiation is intrinsic to the LeftHandPath.
You might even say it IS the LHP.

We are initiators.
We ACTIVELY initiate change on every level.
It is what we are about.
We initiate the direction and depth and limitless possibility
of our Own Self Becoming as almost a "raison d'etre".
(reason for being)

RHP rites of "being" &/or initiation are more about ...

"being" brought into a community
or
"being allowed" some rite/right by a community
or
"being" saved
or
"being" still
or
"being" moral
or even
"just being"....
depending on the exact tradition.


We on the other hand,
actively create & initiate Our Own paths,
as INDIVIDUALS...
forge our own destinies,
initiate even our most "impossible" vision/s
in the most "improbable" ways.

Just "being" ....
or "doing" the proverbial "god's" "will"
is not our path.

Self initiation is our path.

If certain Rites & Rituals
elevate... and direct... focus...
the 'initiatory power' we weild
then they can only be good.

I think this would be as individual
as each individual initiating his or her own path of power.

Whatever it takes to initiate your initiation.
Ignite your flame.
Right?

Initiation-The Examined Life, is Life-long. It is not something you do and are finished with, once that Gate is opened it cannot be closed...but one could try if they want...

Initiation is a (The) Choice the LHP Magician makes when they align their Self with the Source- Isolate Intelligence, I call it Set. As this First Form develops within a being it undergoes a definable (some schools define it better than others) yet highly unique set of experiences that can be unearthed in an abundance of varying levels in the literature out there often at great cost of everyone else's interpretation of what they have experienced and decided is true for them. The key in this I think is Knowing that is the case and finding the "molecules" of affinity experienced when searching others material,but there are Oasis out there that are magnificent, that are important to the individual and incorporating those into ones own philosophy of what your experience here is/has and is yet to become. As each Initiate is responsible for and will live with its own Creations, the Examined Life is an infinitely higher path to attainment of a full experience of Life without making an enemy of ones future.

Rites/Ceremony/Workings are illustrative magic, an external manifestation of an inner Desire. The Initiate symbolizes to its Self the importance of an event/Awakening/Understanding through ritual to Recognize and elicit the internal process that must be preformed by the Psyche in order for "X" to come into being Fully. The more articulate- the ability of the initiate to see without delusion and free from mystical hogwash a Rite is constructed the clearer the Magicians Will is realized in its following ACTIONS outside of the chamber and the more profound the A/Effect will be.

Chambers-though nice to have, are not necessary, neither are circles-there is nothing you need fear on this planet- human or not, neither are implements- you are the ritual tool and your Presence is sufficient to Act on Desire and if done clearly (not as easy as it sounds) your Will will be manifest in the OU in a way that you will Xeper from.

Rites are as unique as the person performing them. Are they necessary? EVERYONE on this planet does them all day long-they are simply unaware that that is what they are doing so yes not only are they necessary they seem to be innate behaviors in humans. I much prefer the the focused approach to clearly thought out Creation and Life without the mind numbing inanity of an obliterated mind/psyche filled with inaccurate/false garbage. Insanity is repeating your mistakes and expecting different results.

The quality of mind that is applied to magical Work will determine the results and that is why LHP individuals are very well educated, and can have their pet theories slammed into a brick wall at 666 mph without falling apart at the seams. If there is something left when the dust clears-you've got gold and will come away with New Knowledge (Experienced Wisdom that is Yours)- that is Xeper! if not leave the pieces where they fall and LEARN then Xeper becomes possible as well.

The LHP, its a Win/Win path...thick skin required.

I actually felt the presence of a demon first time when listening to Dissection´s song Soulreaper (Album cover in Wieldthescythe´s avatar). Since then I´ve felt it in other occasions as well when meditating.

I don´t think an initiation is necessary, but it´s very rewarding. I´ve had the habit of cutting a light wound to my left hand when I´ve changed my athame, and the first time was when I had the initiation ritual. I think there is nothing as powerful in a ritual than a bit of your own blood.

Well first of all it works best when there are no distractions. I prefer a dark quiet room. I like to delve deeper into the thoughts that spark the "satanic atmosphere" in my mind. Whatever works is good, even music or a picture. Like Storm of the Light´s Bane, if you will.

The feeling is like something dark grabs my soul. There are no other words I know I could use to describe it. It´s very ecstatic. Dreamlike visions are also possible.

After you feel it the first time, it´s much easier to get that state of mind again later. It´s extrememly empowering mentally, yet physically exhausting. This doesn´t require a satanic ritual, but I find those helpful prior to doing so.

As an experience it feels like the presence of a demon. Of course this is just how I experience it, but it was enough to knock me from an atheist to satanist.

Yes, it is very hard to describe things not entirely on a physical scale. You explained it well enough for me to understand since i have experienced very similar things while meditating. The "dreamlike visions" for me are not always clear or do not make sense all the time. I imagine with practice they will become more clear.

Dear Xafwak and Wieldthescythe,

If I may interject. What you both have been experiencing during ritual are the Powers of Darkness within you. The sensations of overwhelming inspiration, exhilaration, exaltation, and power enshrouding you like a cloak of electrical energy. you feel like you could do anything. Astral Visions, new understandings of things coming to your mind, the sensation of be levitated. The clear feeling that there is something else indwelling within you. Feelings of warmth and peace, etc.

These things are quite common in Greater Black Magical Workings when one establishes the Magical Link, and as you practice more, the more automatic and powerful it becomes.
