Well, MV is correct, there ARE times for Gayatri, which is Vedic. Hanuman mantra isn't really "Vedic", but asking to Hanuman Power Who is known for Sanjeevani is appropriate here. Sanjeevani and aryuvedic is Vedic, so there is a Vedic connection.

Regarding Gayatri, I do not tell others what to do. Yes, it is the very reason Gayatri is super-powerful that I personally do NOT chant it because I am not qualified, it is for Sanyasans in my opinion and not grihastas like me. Also once I hurt the feelings of a Swami because I thought, being a smarty pants at the time, I will chant Gayatri when and where I want as if a brahmin or something, this hurt the feelings of others. I then promised I would never chant Gayatri again in THIS life, and happiness followed. But each person is different. Personally, I am a wild one.

Thanks for replying, Shiva Fan!

Personally, I don't think Hanuman is less "Vedic". I find Him to be very Vedic - because Shri Hanuman Deva was one of the most well versed in the Veda-s. I made that post because I really understood your advice to NYK, whereas it may have been confusing to others.

In times such as these, if I were a Shaiva, I'd definitely chant Hanuman-related mantra-s and/or Ganehsa-related mantra-s to boost up my confidence and to find some inner strength - or not even chant...but just mediate on Hanuman's name and His deeds. Thus, I would most likely not use the Gayatri in such situations.

The Gayatri Mantra, on the other hand, is for the focusing of the mind, to acquire the serenity and concentration of one's soul or knowledge of all that one has acquired right now. To chant the Gayatri would definitely dislodge any Chakric balance one may have right now, if any, especially in a time of spiritual turbulence. It would be spiritually unsafe. Therefore, if I were in NYK's shoes - I'd ask for strength and motivation and resolve and confidence...which is where Hanuman-related chants and mantra-s come in. 'Tis a Shaiva thing, homie.
Gayatri is not just a mantra for meditating or spiritual upliftment but also material gain. Durga, Saraswati and Laxhmi are all powers of Gayatri. As durga she gives courage, knowledge as Saraswati and as Lakshmi provides wealth. In Hinduism we have Gayatri form of mantras for every deity because this mantra is source of power. Maa Gayatri provide both material and spiritual blessings.
