Intel sources indicate Russia is trying to sow discord in the U.S.

I'm going to basically agree with you even though Putin is doing his best to tear us down.
He doesn't have to do much, although I agree.

We've already got Fox and CNN and the blogosphere.
We've already got Christians and everybody else.
We've already got conservative liberals and liberal conservatives.
We've already got the financial elite and the rest of us.

Putin needn't do much, especially with his favorite US politician in the White House. And that favorite politician's opposition behaving like a bunch of clowns trying to get into a Volkswagen.

Putin doesn't need to do much of anything with the likes of RF liberals helping Trump win again.

Ya think? Russia has never ended the Cold War...

Actually, you have that reversed. They tore down the Berlin Wall, disbanded the Warsaw Pact, and dissolved the Soviet Union in good faith. We were the ones who never ended the Cold War.

The size skills and natural resources of Russia would lead one to suppose that they should be the leading country in almost every sphere in the world.
But they are not?
Why?

They were always behind the West industrially, even going back centuries. Communism made great strides towards closing that gap, but they were still slightly behind. They also suffered greatly in the World Wars, much more than any Western country ever suffered, so that also set them back quite a bit.

Although I have no doubt Russia is trying to interfere now as well as doing it in the past. We are to diverse a nation to be majorly effected by it. Pockets of violence may evolve but the US generally reacts harshly against internal violence.

Usually it does, although there have been a few times in history when the US has had to face some serious internal dissension. Not just the Civil War, but also significant labor unrest, race riots, mass protests, and other civil disturbances. Plus, we've endured major crimes waves from the 1960s through the 1990s, when it started to abate.

We are a tough nation. We can endure.

I'm not sure how much actual "interference" is going on, either by Russia or any other nation. It seems that, whatever they're doing, any nation could do - or even any organized group of people.

Our government has interfered in the internal politics of multiple nations for more than a century. Now that it's happening to us, we don't like it, but we really should have been on guard against it. It had to happen sooner or later.

A lot of nations have an interest in undermining the US as it is the sole superpower remaining. Keeping in mine what a superpower(s) have done in the past. Russia has lost a lot of power since it formed out of the SRR.
