Interview with a Feminist

I've done many of these interview threads throughout the years here at RF, including invitations concerning my dance, my time spent as a Tibetan Buddhist, and any general questions.

But let's give my personal experience and points of view up for questions regarding feminism.

A couple of ground rules:

- this isn't a debate thread, so rebuttals are better suited for other threads where debate is encouraged. I'm game to be invited to debates in case anyone wishes to have one. Just not here.

- I will not discuss my activism here.

- feel free to ask my views on any and all talking points where feminism is relevant. I will be happy to offer my own unique and Mystic feminism perspective.

- my perspectives on feminism are not the defining points of feminism here at RF. I have my perspective and should only be considered as such. Therefore, I do not speak for any other feminist here.

Welcome!

What sort of issues should feminists focus on for the coming year? For the next five years?

Hola MysticHeath'er,

What do you think are the biggest failings of the Feminist movement have been in recent years?

As a followup question, What do you think can be done to revitalize the movement and keep it relevant?

How do you deal with media - movies, tv shows, etc. - that may be entertaining, but have misogynistic elements? Are you a "brain off" or "brain always on" sort when consuming entertainment?

Why's love so hard to find, o great one?

I'm sure you won't mind if I answer for the little woman here while she's busy doing the dishes and cooking supper. Love's not really hard to find. All you need to do is become a manipulative pick up artist like me. I can teach you great lines that work every time. Lines like, "If you were any hotter, I'd light my cigars off your nipples", and, "Can I buy you a mixed drink? How about two fulsome inches of thrusting bliss stick to stir it?" Before you know it, Dust1n, you'll be talking them up as smooth as me!

Hmm, you offer me hope while Mystic only offers me the sad truth. Where can I go to send you a check and does a two-week man-camp come included with your guide to love, or will that be a separate purchase? Also, is there a forum of some sort where I can forever whine about how everything to do with relationships is unreasonably painful on a visceral level, or will I actually have to get past that?

I think with more female candidates coming forward as possible presidential candidates for 2016, feminism needs to keep focusing on the relevant issues where gaps in equal opportunities and protections occur.

I would also like to see feminism continue utilizing social media for the instant communication and dissemination of information to the masses. We get a really really bad rep in academia, some deserved because it is so embarrassingly middle class white female centered. But women's studies would do better if it would continue stepping aside and allowing womanism and queer studies offer more voices to what looks like a privileged White Woman Front.

Hola MysticHeath'er,

What do you think are the biggest failings of the Feminist movement have been in recent years?

Saving face when women of color, queer women, and trans women have brought up how they have been thrown under the bus or marginalized. It's one thing to focus on the wage gap. It's another to ignore the staggering wage gap that occurs between white women and women of color. It's one thing to focus on campus rape. It's another to ignore the much higher rates of rape that First Nation women and girls experience on reservations.

As a followup question, What do you think can be done to revitalize the movement and keep it relevant?

Less talking. More doing.

Brain off. I compartmentalize well, otherwise I'm always putting everything I watch to the Bechdel test, and getting upset most of the time.

I schedule my writing and activism, so that I can keep from being consumed.

How would you define "radical feminism", and what's your opinion of it?

I personally define radical feminists as those who are the more lesbian separatists or those who want safe spaces for cis women only. They deny more often safe spaces for people who identify as male or non-binary people. RadFems tend to over-emphasize nature over nurture in the same vain that the Red Pill Mens groups do, in that they overemphasize the nature of testosterone, the dark aggressive side of it, and discuss the sexual economy in terms of and ejaculatory bias, though I'd put RadFems as a group of people who over emphasize the value of estrogen and menstruation with a bias, too.

Something I've learned more and more as I've experienced menopause, and how I've been ignored more by these particular feminists than others.

I'm afraid I haven't learned to do that yet. LOL! When such a movie comes on - I can hear an audible sigh from the guys - usually followed by my questions pointing out the idiocy of such shows, - for instance, - Why the hell are the males dressed correctly for this action movie mountain climb, - and the women have been put in shorts half way up their butts, and tight t-shirts? Or, why has this move got thirty overweight, ugly, short. tall, who-cares-what-what-they-look-like men in it, - and only two underdressed women, one acting as the happy hooker, and the other to be rescued by the men?
