IOC Wants To Do Away With Real Ammunition In The Olympics

Well it seems that PC is going a little to far nowadays's. Seems the IOC wants to forgo live ammunition in the Olympic shooting sports and use lasers instead. I guess these idiots have zero knowledge about internal and external ballistics. Now I have shot both trap (both international and US) and skeet and was selected as one of the representatives for the US Navy for the Olympic tryouts (didn't make it for the US team). And I can see no way that this sport (at this time) could use anything else but live ammunition.

Yeah, taking away guns is a UN globalist agenda. So they try to make gun control as popular as tattoo's in their global media outlets.

Just make them shoot tracer's, that should make the shooting significantly harder and give the public a sight to see.

Shooting sports without live ammunition doesn't sound very fun although they got the nerd in me interested when they said lasers.

"To attract a TV audience"? I don't get it. I don't know much about shooting, but wouldn't this change the entire event? No more recoil and the like?

I don't get it either. There's also the bullet trajectory influenced by gravity and wind.

What's next? Taking the point of the arrows off and replacing them with NERF heads?
I was wondering about archery too.
The javelin being long (sexistly suggesting male genitalia) & pointy (dangerous) will be replaced with....
th

The shot, discus, & hammer have origins in war too.
Very un-PC.
At least the Olympics never had dwarf tossing.

Shooting sports will never be popular on TV anyway.
If hardly anyone wants to watch male gymnasts bobbing about
in the air, who'd want to watch people remaining perfectly still?
The only chance is to have women in skimpy onesies competing to music.

Oh no! A sport with largely arbitrary rules is considering using a slightly different set of arbitrary rules!

It would completely change the skills involved to the point that it wouldn't even be the same sport. It would like doing away with ice in hockey, replacing the puck with a ball, and just having the players run around on normal ground. But that would be no big deal, right? It's all arbitrary, after all.

Do you really think that bullets travel in a continuous strait line and at the same speed as a beam of light, unaffected by wind, gravity, recoil, etc.? Think son, think.

There is no reason to allow people's pissy emotions to pointlessly ruin things like this.
Other possible advancements.....
- Shooters could use handheld video game devices to point at simulated targets projected onto a screen.
- Runners could compete on treadmills with video projections of the competition along side them.
This would eliminate one runner interfering with another.
- Throwing athletes could simply pull on a cable attached to a device which would predict their distance.

Think of how it efficient it would be to remove all possible connections with the origins of each sport
Athletes could even compete at remote locations...no Olympic venue needed at all !!

While I can certainly understand having to deal with the fact that a.) no one is actually watching the sport and b.) the transport of ammunition and guns from so many guns from so many places to one place probably is really costly and hard to manage, it also seems like a laser gun (which I didn't know existed out those arcade things until now) would be significantly different. I mean, I don't know much about specifics of guns, real or laser, but it's hard to imagine a laser gun could replicate the feel of shooting a gun accurately, and presumably all these people practice and shoot with real guns, so that adjustment seems hard to traverse.

If the sport is basically losing money; I'd probably just scrap it, and let whatever group or another hold such contests. I can't imagine introducing laser guns would actually encourage anyone to watch a guy hitting a target or a flying disc...

Or have the Olympians sit on a couch and play a video game version of their event.

@esmith - do you have a reliable source for your claim? When I did some Googling, I couldn't find anything actually from the IOC saying that they're considering getting rid of bullets in shooting sports. I couldn't even find a quote from any IOC representative.

What I could find is plenty of stories about the IOC and the International Shooting Sports Federation talking about whether to get rid of LEAD ammunition and instead use lead-free bullets.

Do you think the stories you posted might be based on a misunderstanding?

DISCIPLINES ............MEN'S EVENTS..................................................................... WOMEN'S EVENTS
RIFLE ........................50m Rifle 3 Positions 50m Rifle Prone 10m Air Rifle........ 50m Rifle 3 Positions 10m Air Rifle

Honestly, these are no more sports than are pool and bowling, and should be done away with. And, you can throw in curling as well.

Now don't go throwing shade at curling. It's chess on ice.
