Is anyone else sick of the hypocrisy?

Should modern prohibition be ended?

Prohibitions don't work if the people being prohibited don't believe in the value of the prohibition.

The reason prohibition failed in America is because the majority of the population didn't believe in it's value, and so basically ignored it. A black market was created to supply their desire for alcohol that in some ways did more harm that the alcohol itself. The bottom line, though, is that you can't change people's minds by writing a law. And if you can't change their minds you probably won't change their behavior, either. Alcohol is legal because we want it that way. Drugs are illegal because we want it that way. It's not necessarily rational, but people aren't known for their rationality.

If you want drugs to be legalized, you're going to have to convince enough people that this is how it should be. Corporations convince the public of untruths every day. They even get the public to act against their own best interest. All it takes is a lot of money to hire lots of professional liars to tell lots of lies over and over and over again.

When pot-smokers can afford a lobby, and can pay out all the necessary bribes and fees, pot will become legal. Laws are for sale in America. So are the electorate's opinions. All you need is enough money.

This I fully agree with, and consider it to be a large factor in what seperates responsible use from irresponsible use.
Any drugs that effect motor skills and mental thinking, be they legal or illegal, should be kept at home, or should be stopped being used at a public place long before you have to leave, such as a bar or concert, to allow time to sober up. But of course, a designated driver is always the best route to take, regardless of time allowed to sober up.

Sad, but true.

i think they should legalize it all too -- and then they could regulate it -- drugs are just like guns if people want it they can find a way to get it -- what i think is unfair is the mandatory sentencing regardless of the situation or circumstances
