Is atheism a type of satanism?

In discussions with atheists, if they hadnt already told me that they were atheists, the arguments etc were no different from satanism arguments.

Is atheism, satanism?

Are atheists unwilling satanists?

Is this why atheistic satanism is so common?

How many atheists and what were their arguments EXACTLY?

Satanism is based on atheism. It's atheism + a whole layer of philosophical and ethical ideology.
Hi I am Corvus. My personal religion has no God(s). So I am an atheist. Not a Satanist.

Since you have already established that when you say "Satanism", you're referring to actual belief in and worship of Satan... I could easily (supremely easily in fact) state that I do not believe Satan exists. Just as easily, and with as much confidence as I would state that I believe God does not exist. Accepting "Satanism" is just as ridiculous a concept to my mind as accepting "Christian", "Islamic" or "Jewish" beliefs. Accepting make-believe as truth just isn't my style, and on the playing field of "truth", for me, Satanism is on equal footing with the Abrahamic religions - all sitting at a score of precisely ZERO.

Even if "Satanism" had nothing to do with believing in "Satan" (as some have said, there are apparently atheistic subsets within Satanism) I wouldn't label myself "Satanist." I don't know what they stand for, and I don't care to. I couldn't want any less to apply to myself what any religious-labeling group believes or adheres to. Even if some of anyone's beliefs happen to overlap with mine, I will never label myself with some sweeping/general-application label to "fit in" or "make nice" with people whose sole interest in me is then probably limited to the fact that I believe as they do and therefore make them feel "accepted" also. I don't need a single individual on this Earth to agree with me in order to hold my beliefs.

There's a bunch of gray area here.

An atheist disbelieves in a deity. Strong atheists claim there is no deity whatsoever. Some people think that anyone who doesn't believe in an all-powerful God is atheist, because they don't have the belief that the God exist. I would describe an atheist as someone who disbelieves in literal external gods; they might also be soft polytheists, in which case they are still atheist because the gods don't literally exist outside of archetype or representational forms.

Satanism is alignment with the figure of Satan. You don't have to literally believe in Satan to be considered a Satanist, however many do believe in Satan literally. I guess because it feels good to believe in something alive. Satanism is a little bit easier to understand because it is a label that implies belief, while atheism is lack of belief.

So even though the two concepts can go hand-in-hand, not all atheists believe in Satan or even the name of Satan as important to themselves, while Satanists are only atheists if they do not believe in literal gods.

That hints at how much attention you paid to those arguments.

Is atheism, satanism?

No, although some forms of satanism are at least arguably atheistic.

Are atheists unwilling satanists?

Sure, if you define "satan" and/or "satanism" is a sufficiently liberal way. Which is basically dishonest, but I guess I can't stop you from doing so.

Most anything is possible for someone sufficiently motivated.

Is this why atheistic satanism is so common?
You tell me. I have little idea of how common it is.

Just my opinion, but... Atheistic Satanism is low-rent, AKA relatively zero risk and mainstream that's why it's common. Hit Hot-Topic, read a little too much The Satanic Bible, Ragnar Redbeard, Nietzsche, or Rand and you're in. The Satanic Temple (aka liberal / political Satanism) is even more fun-zies for the masses, since it has nothing to do with a life philosophy whatsoever - they literally have to do nothing but pretend to be a Satanist. The only thing they agree with each other on is that they are atheists...

Yes, so ultimately, there are more atheists because it is easier. :D

P.S. No atheists are atheists, but they could be humanists, satanists, pastafarians, discordians, subgenii, or any other silly stuff.
Nice:thumbsup:

Now that is a good rant.

On one hand, I can't argue with your name, or the things you wrote about yourself following.

Your first and second sentences are trash though.

That's completely ridiculous. When you said a huge percentage of atheists are secretly satanists, did you finally find out that they really aren't? Because there aren't hundreds of millions of satanists. And now you are making them unknowing satanists.

Your unqualified opinion is worthless without substantation, so I can only laugh contemptuously (mwa ha ha ha) at your empty and pointless statement. I believe I have no alternative but to put you on ignore. Goodbye Satan's Serrated Edge, I will not debate with people like yourself who do not appear to understand what debate is exactly, it is a waste of both of our time. Utterly futile. I have absolutely no patience for this kind of thing. Good luck with all future endeavours. No offence intended. I am sure you're otherwise a cool guy.
