Is being gay a sin according to your religion?

I was raised Roman Catholic...never took. But I know the religion rather well.

In Catholicism all sex acts outside of marriage are sinful. (There are limitations within marriage as well but that is another story.) Unmarried homosexual acts are no different from unmarried heterosexual acts. The difference is that the Church only recognizes heterosexual marriage. So any homosexual act is necessarily a sin.

To the Church, being homosexual is part of one's nature and is not in itself sinful. It is like being a kleptomaniac. But stealing is still a sin just like unmarried sex.

My opinion? As long as no one is getting hurt, live and let live.

Oh, but of course, we can't allow them to get married so as to avoid the sin.

Makes 0 sense.

Ever notice that the people who yell the loudest about 'gay promiscuity' are also the most opposed to gay marriage, which would cut back on the (alleged) promiscuity?

I don't take the Bible literally and think it was written by men, so the verses in Leviticus and Romans only pertained to the knowledge they had at the time they were written. I have done research and think there is a biological component to homosexuality, so it is not a sin.

I don't have a religion and being gay is fine by me. What about you guys??

I believe it is a sin to practice homosexuality but not a sin to like people of the same gender although carried to extremes it may indicate a spiritual disfunction.

Abrahamics almost never care about being gay. It's having gay sex that sends them running to Scripture looking for a reason to believe that God is also grossed out.

Tom

I believe I can deal with being grossed out so God can also. It is a sin because God says it is not because of human reaction.

I believe it becomes quite convenient to write off God as old fashioned when one wishes to accept sin.

Christianity? Yes! Read Romans 1:26-27
The folly of homosexuality is proclaimed in its inability to reproduce the human species in keeping with the divine commandment -Genesis 1:28.

I believe it becomes quite convenient to write off the texts and commandments as intractable and immutable when one wishes to stand in judgment of another.

Hmmm... that passage says nothing about "sin."

Ro 3:9 What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin;
You sure like to cherry-pick, don't you? Please decide specifically which passages you're going to misinterpret and let me know, so that we both know what we're dealing with.

Romans 1:26-27.
Paul then concluded that from Romans C1 to
Ro 3:9 What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin;
‘cause,
Ro 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
Ro 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Right, so we're all sinners. What does that, though say specifically against homosexuality as an orientation? Answer: Nothing.

God has nothing to say on the subject, but the ancient Hebrews sure did. I don't go by what humans say, except for Jesus, and he said nothing.
